    Ponting shines in Twenty20 debut
    Twenty20 International, Auckland
    Australia 214-5 v New Zealand

Ponting's range of shots proved too much for the bowlers

Ricky Ponting hammered an unbeaten 98 off 55 balls as Australia totalled 214-5 in the first men's Twenty20 international against New Zealand.

The Australian skipper struck five sixes and nine fours and received good support from Andrew Symonds (32), Simon Katich (30) and Mike Hussey (31).

Kyle Mills was the pick of the New Zealand attack, taking 3-44.

Both sides took the field wearing retro uniforms, the Kiwis opting for the cult beige kit of the early 1980s.
