Just added Spirited Away, Special Collector Edition from France into my collection. An extremely beautiful packaging following Mononoke Hime from last year.

Here are photos from the boxes:

This time the gift is an original Japanese Card Game.

I will follow-up pictures of my collection later on this week if anyone wants to follow as well ;)

That is somewhat scary. Have you actually watched it all?
I suppose the Gundams on their own would count for over 100GB though.

No - I have watched most of it, at some point or other, but there is still the odd series on there that I have downloaded with intent to watch, but have not got around to it yet. Gundam takes up less space than you might think, since I own quite a lot of it on DVD (and I dont keep AVI copies of the stuff I own on DVD). I think the only Gundam series' I have fansubbed at the moment are After War Gundam X, Turn A Gundam, Gundam Evolve and Gundam SEED Destiny (as much of it as there is so far).

It is a lot, but I have a wide range of interests with regard to anime :) On the other hand, it could be a lot worse - 2 terabytes of anime is the record out of the people I know :) Thats not all in a single PC though (and not including the truckloads of DVDs they own either).

    Well that's a big collection Asuka :)

My biggest serie at the moment is Dragonball, I have all 291 episodes of DBZ, All episodes of DBGT and I'm jut missing a few DragonBall ... as you said, it looks like a lot but it doesn't represent much.

I quess I'm not too fussy regarding what counts as a collection, basically if I can watch them, the subs good then count them, why not? Obviously I like most everybody else here would love to own original, packaged anime, but thats often not possible, either it doesnt exist yet other than fansubs, its too bloody expensive, £39 euro for 3 eps of a series, granted you can buy Chinese 'originals' but who'm I kidding then. So I continue to dl what I can, I buy those that are exceptional, cos they're what I can streach to. We'd all like to support the Anime industry 100% but lets be practical about it, I test run the anime, if its of a high enough quality I buy it, if I could rent to review it I would, but no joy there, except for Studio Ghibli but I know the standard of that already. I think if you've watched Anime , kept it, (I delete the Rubbish, yes I know I kept legend of the overfiend, but its a classic, a deranged one accepted) then the remainerbecomes your collection,. How many people here have movies they love but just wouldn't add them to thier collection because they fear ridicule for thier tastes. If you've got it its a collection, VIVA the poor anime fan. P.S thats a lot of Anime pity you dont appreciate them, Divx the poor bastard child of Mpeg 2.

Well, we all use fansubs as trials for a series; its what has given anime the level of popularity it has today. However, I have no sympathy for those who continue to pirate anime when it is commercially available. The 'Ive got no money!' excuse has always been used, and it has never held any water.

    Asuka, 2 points.

    1. You seem to have taken what I've said as a personal attack, its not, nor do I appreciate being associated with the term 'pirate' I'm not, I'm not the one with 700gigs of Anime on my drives.

    2. You evidently didnt read what I said, I do buy Anime, when available and when I can afford it. I delete that which I dont either like or I have replaced with genuine dvds. The 'no money' isnt an excuse, its a fact. is all your 700gigs legit then? I wont apologise for downloading anime, why should I restrict my enjoyment of Anime due to collector snobbery. I feel bad that i have been subjected to this type of elitist bullS**t especially when Anime forums, and I'm a member of a few have tended to be the most open, sharing and non discriminitory.

Well I think the thread went out of control here ;) ... I don't think Asuka is trying to start a war here but my thread started with DVD Anime collection, that's why. Now we could start another thread and ask for the overall collection :)

Come on guys make peace ;)

What I said was not a personal attack; nor did I take what you said to be a personal attack on me. I was expressing my feelings with regard to the topic, that is all. I was not calling you specifically a pirate.

First of all, as for the collector business; I think you are simply misunderstanding. Certain people have a collector's mentality. They take pride in a collection; particularly one which they spent a lot of money on (and anime is an expensive habit, there are no two ways about it). I collect anime I enjoy on DVD. This does not make me elitist or a snob. You do not. I do not consider you to be a lesser person for that. Allow me to explain.

With regards to my morality as an anime fan - I dont take a particularly righteous stance, but I do strictly stand by my personal morality on the issue. Once a show has been lisenced, in most cases I will stop downloading it - mainly because it is not worth the hassle of finding a decent subber who continues it, and downloading from obscure sources is more trouble than its worth (since my router has issues with BT). If the show is worthy of the trouble, then I will continue to download it until it becomes available in English. Once the show is available in English *from any country* (bar HK bootlegs, of course) the show is no longer fair game. I will no longer download it, and I will not distribute it to anyone else. I will not delete it from my own PC unless space becomes an issue, or until I buy the DVD copies.

Now, I am no hypocrite, and my policy is hardly elitist or snobbish. What I have a problem with is those who refuse to support the industry by leeching fansubs as if they were a fundamental right of humanity. I would consider pirates not to be those who have a morality looser than my own - your own morality on the issue is your own business - but rather those who have no morality at all. To a large degree, it's a matter of attitude - most people who complain about the price of anime, and use it as an excuse not to buy anything, are doing just that - using it as an excuse. These people are pirates. They latch onto an excuse, but they would still be pirates without it - albeit, pirates without an excuse.

I apologise if you fall into the minority of people who do actually spend a lot of their money on official DVDs, and were complaining about the cost to episode per disc ratio - which is admittedly pretty bad. It was not my intention to accuse you of piracy. I suggest you check out DVD Pacific, I find their prices to be generally pretty good.

    Asuka,
I now consider this matter closed, I agree there was an obvious misunderstanding on my side regarding your opinion, and hope you accept my apology on the matter. I hope to continue to add to this forum, the more people who learn to appreciate Anime the bettter.
    Sincerly
    Paul G. : Irishshogun

P.S thanks for the link, Play.com (the american site) has quite a good catologue of Anime too.
