    Hello there,

I'm thinking of buying a house and therefore will no longer have access to a car. Should happen in the next 12 months. So i'm eye balling some potential cars.

I really really like the Audi A4. It would probably be a 2001 model. TDi 130bhp. The diesel is non negotiable. I've been driving a diesel for the past few years and won't go back to petrol. I'll have a budget of maybe 20k +/- 3k

So are there any Audi owners here? Positive and negative comments welcome.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but it may as well go here, I saw a 05 A4 this morning on the way into work.. jesus, it could have been a toyota camry or something , the state of it, they have taken a step backwards, the last A4 was sublime looking (especially with the chrome pack etc)..

My bro had a '98 A4 1.6 petrol that he just sold, seemed happy enough with it, a few niggly problems like rattly interior trim, and dodgy seat mechanism were a bit annoying, but it ran fine, and felt solid.

I have never owned one but have driven one. The 1.9 Tdi 130bhp has plenty of zip in it. The interior is well put together but rear leg room is tight and the boot is average. Not much standard equipment either but resale values of the TDi are strong. Not sure if you will have much change from €23k for a 2001 model though.

    Check these examples out:

Some of the above are UK imports so they will have more toys as standard and more than likely would have been looked after better.

Excellent links there bazz26. Up till now i was only checking cbg but this will keep my entertained for some time.

I have driven diesels 130+break TDi's and they are zingers compared to a 1.8T petrol Superb i have driven.

The last Audi A4 i drove was aTDi 140bhp (not exact ont he bhp but it was more that 130) Quattro Sports version... omg i nearly wet myself.. infact i think i did a little. ;)

A work collegue has a 130 TDi Skoda Superb. Huge car for the money, rear leg room is incredible. Lots of toys as standard also even in basic trim. They look the part with the optional 17" Avis alloy wheels. Its a pitty the 140bhp 2.0 TDi is not available in the Superb yet.

A neighbour of mine has had Audis for years, from a 1988 Audi 80 right up to a 01 A4 (old model) now, never washes them and rarly has them serviced but he swears by them.

TBH i've seen this mentioned quite a few times in relation to the A4. Can you elaborate a little??

VW had problems with the cylinder coils on the 1.8 and 1.8T 20 Valve units across it's whole range a couple of years ago. This included the A4 but they should have been replaced by now under a recall.

I bought one new in 04,very pleased with it.No problems at all with it.
Solidly built - no squeaks or rattles.Very impressed with the TDI 130 motor(my first diesel),had intended to buy the 1.8 T petrol but a test drive changed my mind.Plenty of power and miserly on diesel

Edit: Sorry, forgot one thing does annoy me a bit,the front arm rest seems to get in my way when driving in towns- ie using gears and handbrake
