Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Your friend is right.

Stay well clear of hoopy earings.

im not a big fan but i think that really thin ones can look ok. i think it has alot to do with what else you are wearing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

I've never seen them look good on anyone, and they always remind me of knackers. The thicker big ones are obviously worse, but overall, they're just bad. Go for something discrete and pretty, not tacky, is what I say.

I have a pair of thin silver ones, but I haven't worn them in about two years now. They were really nice ones too, used to wear them with my hair down and they looked nice.

Steer clear of gold hoops - most of them are just screaming "skanger".

Friend of mine wears thin silver ones, about a centimetre in diameter that aren't full hoops (they don't fully come back to the ear at the back) and they look really well on her... but she dresses nicely anyway so maybe that's it.

Hi, I think hoop earings can look ok... but only if they are small, thin silver ones.
NEVER go for the gold ones... believe me, I tried it once and my friends nearly killed me tryin 2 rip em out of my ears!!!

i think they can look good, but the rest of you cannot contain an ounce of skanger

No. Silver ones just..aren't nice. And the gold ones are just WRONG.

depends on the person wearing them. you can tell a skanger a mile off, hoopies or no, so if someone is wearing nice clothes (no trackies), sometimes they can pull off the hoopies, they can look quite nice. depends on the person, what they're wearing and how they look already.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Yeah, I think the thin ones look very nice, but not with a tracksuit, if you know what I mean ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,505 ✭✭✭irlirishkev

It entirely depends on the girl.. They look scangery sometimes, but more often than not they've got the whole outfit. Hoopy earings, numerous sovereign rings, scanger hairdo, big gold chains hanging outside of her tracky top, bottle of 'coke', fag in mouth.. you know the type..

But if you see a girl just with hoopy earings, she can look okay. It all depends on the individual.

I love hoop earrings and wear them with practically everything. Apparently, I'm not alone.

    Reese Witherspoon
    Cameron Diaz
    Angelina Jolie
    Nicole Kidman
    Salma Hayek
    Julia Roberts
    Lucy Liu

Hooped earings are horrible but Kelly would look great wearing anything, and even better wearing nothing ;)

    Ahaha, skanger. :p
    Apparently, I'm not alone.
And neither are we... http://www.chavscum.co.uk/howto.php (see last item on that page).

Hoopy earrings are alright if they're jewel encrusted, cost around 500 grand and are hanging from the ears of a movie star at the oscars... but in this country (and the UK) they've become chav-ware.
If you can pull it off, fair play to ya... but if you're worried about being mistaken for a skanger I'd stay well clear.

@ Davey: Picture yer wan there in a tracksuit roaring down the street - "Heeeeeewyeh Jisinteh!" ... works for me.

If you look like Angelina Jolie or Kelly Brook then you should be fine wearing hoopy earings. Just hoopy earings. And a smile.

They looked sensational on that one from the nightclub in the OC when Seth meets her for the 1st time.

No offence, but do you look like Nicole Kidman or Angelina Jolie? They can wear **** on a stick and it'll look good on them. Hoopy earrings are the work of the (skanger) devil.

I am guessing skanger and chav-ware (wear?) are negative connotations, correct? If so....
    /crying in a corner
    /fetal position
    /lovingly stroking hoop earrings
    /defensively glares at approachers
/and remembers to pour some colt 45 for fallen homies

I've got 2 friends that I worked with who used to wear really thin ones and they are they only people i've seen them look good on. But they were really stylish and edgy dressers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 princess fluff

yep i think hoopy earings are mad!! :p they look reali well with a dressy outfit and with hair down, STAY AWAY FROM THE GOLD
.....maby go wit thin white ones or sometin but not GOLD!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 818 ✭✭✭idontknowmyname

Depends on how you wear them, if you're gonna wear them on a day to day basis, u'll be branded a scanger.

I dont have any but I'd wear a silver pair if i was jazzing up an outfit (i dress quite rock -chick when i'm out so I could get away with wearing them)

I love hoop earrings too i don't like thcik gold ones tho :D

dreadfully skangery. listen to your friend. they belong to professional pram pushers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,269 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

They made Jennifer Lopez look like a cheap hooker, why on earth would anyone else wear them?

AFAIC, they're fine if you're on the game. Otherwise, no self-respecting person should be seen dead in them.

Whenever I see a girl wearing big hoopy earings i'm reminded of the joke
'why do (whoever) wear hoopy earings ?
For somewhere to put their ankles'

Ok, i didnt say it was a good joke but the image sticks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 169 ✭✭hiphopfanno1

it really does depend on how you wear them tho.Jlo wears them when she has her hair tied up and she def. does look like a hooker with them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,598 ✭✭✭ferdi

as doc j says, they can look good, but not with a track suit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 169 ✭✭hiphopfanno1

ya i completly agree with chu on that

Since the first time I read this post and the obvious and overwhelming unenthusiastic response toward hoops, I have started to take note of women's ears wherever I may be (work, store, restaurant, etc). Hoops are very common on women of all ages here. Large, small, thick, thin, gold, silver, painted colors, plain, jeweled, everything!

Granted, the larger diameter and thicker hoops (especially with an engraved name) tend to be worn by a certain stereotype but not always.

Bingo! I would have said "No hoops ever" until this week - hoops that are both nice and small, applied correctly can be good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,492 ✭✭✭upmeath

hoops? are they made by adeeeedas or noyk or reebok, buts?
in fairness, a girl of class can look damn hot with hooped earrings, but not knacker hoops, sorry, you need bleached hair and a champion sports privilege card if you want to wear them

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 347 ✭✭DirtyHarry

you can notice a knacker a mile away they the shine of the earrings...plus they sit on there shoulders, there so heavy and big. its just stupid...dont they realise???

like do they not look in the mirror and go....geez iv a set of massive ear rings that look so knackery.

    THE MIRROR I TELL YOU>>>>>>USE IT! :p

yeah but its a bit of a community pride thing, like gang colours! to have a big car, big house and big everything is the american dream. to have big, cheap, brass earrings, a buggy and white sports clothes is the northsider's dream. it's a status symbol, like a butlers' frapp is on the other soyde of the city. why cant everyone in dublin just be normal like their cousins out here in the fresh air?
