Latest Met Éireann to get the ball rolling:
    Tomorrow
Yet another cold day tomorrow, with the continuing possibility of some wintry showers - again the East and Southeast most at risk.

    3 Day Outlook:
Staying very cold over the weekend and into the early days of next week. With cold north to northeast winds daytime temperatures will remain low and there will conitnue to be severe nighttime frosts. Scattered wintry showers will continue to affect the East and Southeast Friday night but will die out during Saturday. There will be good sunny spells over the weekend. On Monday northern parts of Ulster and Connacht are at risk of some wintry showers.

Heavy Snow in the usually balmy Rosslare - 1500z on Met.ie

not cold enough actually. well not here anyway. getting the precipitation now when it would have been better last night when it was -2 degrees. getting rain here now.

still holding out hope for tonight, we got something last night and there seems to be more of that precipitation now which could be nice if the tempriture started to fall.

Looks like it's all over now. It's been raining/sleeting here all day leaving nothing but a wet ground.

So do you guys think we're in for anymore snow or is that it now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,780 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

Just to mention Ireland will stay cold for the foreseeable future
today and tomorrow being slightly milder (like 1-2c milder)

A severe chill is set for Europe this weekend and into early next week
    clipping us

    http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn782.gif

Colder that it has been here all week by then! But high pressure closer by
with just a few light snow showers.

After that, well it's more cold weather from the north
with low pressure steering down more cold air and more
snow showers, briefly milder on Tuesday in the west
and then cold for the rest of the week..

Certainly no end to this cold spell in sight with hard frosts
this weekend with snow returning next week? ;)

Well the snizzle would turn to snow if it got heavier but
    that looks unlikely :)

Wouldnt say no to a possible northerly next week :D

Light snow now in Portlaoise, and bitter cold as the wind had just got going.

Is it just wishfull thinking to hope that the swirl of cloud seen here will give us some good snow by the time it gets to us later this evening (east coast anyway)????

    possibly BUT

Barometer at 1020 is a tad on the high side to say the least so the Irish sea is not going to pep it up.
Instead what you will get is a decaying front.

Thats partly whats damned the snow today, plus the temp was about a degree higher that needed.

I've been persuaded to head up the hills tonight so if it does snow up there its going to be interesting-I should be back home by about 1030-will let ye know how I get on testing the 4 wheel drive

Hey what happened to "When Flakes Attack IV" ? ;)

A bit of snow here this morning but that was a good thing as it meant there was no ice at all.

    Mike.

That's it for now folks, 24 hours of snizzle and then we get
much colder but dryer weather over the weekend and early
next week. Then a return to very cold unsettled weather :)

Most af that was snizzle too!

However, very north on England and the very SE in Kent got hammered by snow. 30cm on the Pennines,

Compares similarly to the Wicklow Mountains, but does not have the mejia hype!

Many areas below 150m or 200m in England got little or nothing...

Thats all for this spell..and very much as expected has to be said...

No doubt there will be spells of cold weather in march and april ..but what we just had/are having was/is a global warming type of severe winter....enjoy..in a few years all the showers will be rain unless you live up a mountain....
Bored with this pathetic "cold" (cool) spell ..move on spring.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Gosh Earthman your a chancer! I would be terrified to go up there to do that! Mind you it sounds like you had mad craic. Getting VERY bored of this cold spell now. Hopefully it will move on soon.

    And hailstones here...

Even though I was playing in a foot deep snow tonight, i think its time to lower the flag on this cold spell.

    Re-opening the other two stickies.
All talk of trends from models can now go into the current indications sticky , whilst weather reports are welcome back in the rain or shine thread
