    Has the indexing process stopped or are we forever condemned to searching on less common words ....which do work in Search ?

    Ohhhh :) We are such a Snotty Little Man :) !

    So the Indexing has NOT quite finished then ...that would be the kindest possible reading of Ecksors comment.

    Until it does (or whenever Ecksor tells us it _has_ ) we cannot declare the search facility to be faulty . Thereafter we can form our own opinion .

    Lock this up till then Ecksor

    To be fair, you havent exactly given us a lot of details to go on and seem to have a slightly "clicking of fingers" tone.

    Right, all you do on this forum is drag threads off-topic and troll moderators so you're banned indefinitely.

    In case anyone watching is wondering if the indexing has anything to do with this, the answer is that it doesn't. The indexing finished last week (and indeed Sponge Bob posted on the thread where I asked people to test it). The indexes don't reduce the amount of information returned (in fact the way it works, they increase the amount of information returned as you rebuild the index).

    Also, while the postindex system makes the searches more efficient for most searches it doesn't scale well. When you have a term like 'eircom' that occurs in over 45000 separate posts on close to 15000 distinct threads and (more importantly) you have 1190 different words indexed that contain the word 'eircom' you actually end up with the indexing system making the searches longer. In this particular case a search via the index caused an increase from about a minute and a half to more than 5 minutes.
