New IOL BB user here - no real problems until last night when my activity light on the Zyxel modem went off..didnt touch any connections at all - Ethernet connection here.

So turned modem off, the back on..nothing..just waited...45 minutes before I could connect again - is this a regular occurance? Is it my modem or IOL's fault??

happens all the time to me ... just double click on the network icon in the system tray and repair the connection ... shud go straight back on ... or open internet explorer and it usually kicks back in. if the dsl light goes out too u have bigger problems.

I have a very similar problem with my motorola cable modem. It will just kick off every hour/ 1/2 hour or so. I have to pull out the cable and plug it back in to get back online. Makes downloading anything a real pain. any suggestions. Sorry if im slightly thread hijacking!

i have same problems. talked to tech support few steps to follow

    1. if ur lead is too long (over 6 feet) try using a shorter one. if u have to use a long phone cable .. dont .. use the short phone lead and use along ethernet cable instead.

    2. unplug all phones etc from the sockets and leave for half hour then reconnect. this resets ur phonelines on ur exchange.

    3. connect modem to filters without pc and time the time it takes for dsl light to go out. then do the same without the filters. ring tech support and tell them that u have done these things and they will send u out new modem and filters.

    4. if all that fails it may be a fault at ur exchange and they will have to get an eircom enginneer to look at it for u.

i am currently at stage 4 and cant stay online for more than 1 hour at a time. will be gettin a lan card and long ethernet cable to try 2morrow in vain hope that it fixes problem.

    Hi,

At around midnight last night (Thursday) I lost connection so I turned off my Netgear D834G for 10 mins (as I had tried to re-connect several times with no luck) then turned it back on - everything has been fine since.

I wasn't sure if it was just my DSL connection or the Netgear router.

the zyxel one is probably just set to disconnect if nothings going on.

i have one myself on iol, but my connection is always active while my pc is on, and i usually turn of the modem if the pc is off (unless I'm over my cap cos they won't let you back on till the following month if you power off the modem).

does it cause you any real problems?

is it actually killing your connection completely?

i had something similar the first few months, so i reckon it's a common problem. rebooting the modem fixed it, but it would happen every few hours.

you could try printing off your modem config screen then resetting the modem and putting your details back in (assuing you know them all, password etc.) to see if that makes a difference.

failing that call iol and tell them it's happening. they'll run you through some steps to fix it and if it's still broke then they'll escalate the problem and it should get sorted.
