I have a '98 1.4 Ford Escort. For the past few weeks I have been calculating my mpg and the best I have gotten is 31.2(7.5 l/100km), the worst being 26.5(8.86 l/100km).
I drive 45miles(72kms) a day, half of which is on the M50 (so stop-start driving) & the rest of the time is spent on normal roads averaging probably around 30mph(50kph). In traffic I tend to maintain a steady slow pace as opposed to screaming up to the car in front & slamming on.
Does anyone else think that my car is using a lot of fuel?

Weren't those old(er) Fords renowned for drinking petrol? or was that the 1.1/1.3?

    Check honestjohn.co.uk or parkers.co.uk

Yeh I know the old CVH engines(which is fitted to my 1.4) weren't the most economical but I just think that under 30mpg is rubbish
