Applet Trouble

Having problems getting an applet to load on a page. I have the html file in the same folder as the applet classfile, but the java console is trying to load from "folder/appletname/class.class" where folder is their location and the <applet code ="appletname.class"> Don't understand why this is happening. Can anyone help?
