Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Kavanagh to Wigan

    KAVANAGH CONFIRMED
Lennie Lawrence made a statement this morning relating to the situation regarding Graham Kavanagh :

"The financial situation at the club has necessitated the sale of Graham Kavanagh to Wigan and it should go through this morning in time for him to be available for their game against Ipswich on Saturday," he said.

"He has been a fantastic player and a great captain for the club as well as a leader on the pitch. It is with a very heavy heart that everybody at this club says farewell to him and we all wish him well for his future football career.

"I have known him since he was a kid and I gave him his debut. He is a great lad which makes it even more of a wrench and you just hope that he is someone who crosses your path again in life and in football.

"He will always be welcome back at Ninian Park in whatever capacity he returns and Graham can leave with a totally clear conscience because the fact the club accepted the bid took him totally by surprise.

"However, a very quick decision was necessary and it is one we had to make. It will have demoralising effect on the other players but I believe we can avoid relegation without him as we have had to go long periods without him previously due to injury."
£400k. Love to see Kav back in the premiership and it looks like thats where Wigan are heading.

Good move for him. I'd say Wigan will be in the Premiership alright.

Pity he has to leave Cardiff though, they're kinda my second team in the English Leagues.

yeah good to see another Irish Midfielder in the Premiership although they'll probably be one of the favourites for the drop ....

I think this season will have the strongest trio of teams promoted from division one in a long time. Wigan are loaded with cash and have a very good team. Sunderland/Ipswich are decent too and Sunderland have the fan base to give the club a bit of cash to spend. Doubt Wigan would get relegated though.

    /edit - the fee was actually £600k.

"I’m extremely upset about the whole thing but I was told by the gaffer if I didn’t go to Wigan the future of the club was in jeopardy.

I’m an emotional man and when I was told I had to leave the club I was heartbroken and broke down in tears. I love this club and planned my whole life around it.

It has been a bloody disaster of a week. I’m devastated and emotionally drained by the whole thing. I was told things were not right at the start of the week and as skipper I was going around the players making sure they were up for the match with Sheffield United.

"But then hours later I’m the first bloody player to be sold."

You'd have to question his ambition but he's certainly loyal.

Indeed. Hopfully he settles in quickly with Wigan as it's good news for the Irish squad.

Great move for Kav. But i'm surprised by his statement. a player in 2005 with loyalty to his club.........amazing. But its a good move and it will help his international career. I hope Wigan and Sunderland go up cause they have the a good amount of irish players between them.

Im delighted. To be honest he only has a few years left in him, and I dont think he would have ever realised playing in the premiership with Cardiff given the time frame.

I think he is exactly what Wigan need to make that final push for promotion.

and hopefully when (not if ;) ) Wigan reach the Premiership he will finally show to some people that he is a better midfielder than O'Shea , Miller , Holland , Carsley and all the other Irish central midfielders except for Kilbane and Keane .

I think he will settle in a Wigan even if he was devastated to be leaving Cardiff .

Chance for him to show if he is actually any good, Wigan should defo be in the premiership next year
