Hopefully he will now be thrown out of the British Army. But he should have been thrown out long before now!

The paratrooper, 36, and from Bradford, was convicted of murder after shooting two teenage joyriders in Belfast in 1990.

The soldier was accused of using excessive force and firing a fourth shot into the back of the car, which killed passenger Karen Reilly, 18.

He was jailed for life in 1993 and freed on licence two years later. He was cleared following a retrial in 1999.

Now, an acting sergeant, he is accused of punching a boy soldier and making him lie about an injury.

The Sun said that if found guilty he faces up to six years in jail and could be thrown out of the army.

It reported that he is now head of an Army police section.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "He is going to face a court martial in May at the military court in Catterick.

"The charges relate to allegations made by a junior soldier at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate."

The court martial is scheduled to take place on May 16.
