Do any of you know if these are hard to get a hold of? because I would love to get one.

Not too hard to find, but very hard to find right. There's an early 80s one about 3 doors down from me, been out in all weather with the glass gone out of the door, but I don't think it's for sale.

Good ones can go for serious money. Have you driven one? We used to have a van, and it was a fairly dreadful thing to drive. Noisy, thirsty, slow, uncomfortable, bad lights, bad grip, v. prone to rust. I loved it dearly!

A real collectors item, especially the early split-windscreen ones. These would be from the 50's ...hence very scarce (and expensive) in any condition above scrap metal.

    Would love one too !

I know a very good Split Screen specialist here in the Netherlands, he has about twenty Splits in varying condition:

You pick up a runner that needs a bit of welding in places but that would be a good basis for a clean restoration from 6-9k, and from then on the sky is the limit with some prices touching the 20k for a "Samba" microbus in very good condition.

Generally speaking if you want a good, clean "ready to roll" split screen without any hassle you should budget between 10 and 15k.

He even has an Ambulance Splittie from Austria in OK condition for 9,950!

    you want to go here

    http://type2ireland.org/

those splitties are not cheap.. you best bet is probably an import from teh US, as they are well looked after over tehre. Even a bay window model, 67-80 in good nick wioll set you back 6K plus.

check out that site though, they are all very nice guys, my father is a member and owns a nice blue and white bay camper

Indeed - the only vehicle they've done that was semi-"tastefully" pimped.
I must admit the TV screen was awesome. That van is better equiped than my house....
