I'm looking for a 1.4L Ford Escort engine to suit the 1996 model. Can anyone recommend a dealer / mechanic or give me an idea of the cost involved in buying and fitting such an engine?

i had a 405 engine bought and fitted a few years ago. cost 150 punts for the motor and 200 to stick it in.
try mullingar auto dimantalers, its their recommended mechanic that did it for me (just ask them) a few years ago. expect to pay 500 euros now id say.

Should be an easy enough lump to find - start with the Golden pages and then ring Traynors up North - they deliver to Dublin every week. You will pay €150-€300 depending on condition and Traynors give a months guarantee on engines. You will pay someone €250 - €350 to fit it depending on whether they recondition everything or not - ie. are you planning to fit a new clutch kit? Recommended, and it will cost €140 for the parts. Then you need a timing belt, fan (?) belt, plugs, filter, oil, air filter and any other odds and sods. I can't recommend a mechanic in Dublin but it shouldn't be impossible to find someone to take this job on.
