2000 Fiat Punto Blaupunkt CD

Have a 2000 punto with blaupunkt cd player, can't find a model number. Put a burnt cd in and it seemed to warp and get jammed, have tried numerous attempts at gently(read brutally) trying to pull it out but just can't reach in far enough free it up.

I think I'm going to have to take it apart, the only visible screws I can see have 6 sided star shaped heads, where can I get a driver for these? are they expensive etc.?

I have never seen the inside of a car radio but am fairly competent with machinery, so assuming I haven't already broken something, I hope I can take out the offending disc and reassemble.

If it is broken how difficult would it be to replace the whole unit? Is it just slide in/out or am I in over my head?

    Any tips or opinions appreciated

    dont know if this helps,
    http://studytech.com/mw/w/t/t_drive_1-a.html

these things are easily picked up in any hardware store, and have come across them in pound (euro?) shops.

i have a 5 disc blaupunkt and had 10 disc, both gave trouble very occasionally, found that resetting the unit (i.e. disconnecting the unit) fixed it 90% of the time, other than that open the unit, see if you can figure out where it is gettting stuck, see if you can get around it.

new head units from blaupunkt start at about EU150, so if there is any damage done to the head unit, unless it is a very expensive unit, it is probably written off (makes a good radio for a shed though)

Was hoping you'd say that re: screw driver, was afraid it might be a proprietary blaupunkt type thing, will hopefully have one by end of today and give it a lash tonight, thx

If it is broken they are a 2 minute job to pull out and replace. All you need are a pair of those U type prongs, you push them into the holes on either side of the unit, lever the prongs sideways and pull the unit out. The connectors at the back are very straight forward. If you buy a replacement unit the prongs are usually supplied with it.

I don't know how /why but for some reason when I took off the removable security fascia this evening the Disc was sticking out of the cd slot just far enough to pull out by hand, so just yoinked it out and now it seems to work fine.

The eject mech seems a bit sluggish but still functional.

It's been broke for months and i've tried all kinds of operations with pointy metal objects to remove it then as soon as I set aside some time for a proper effort it just fixes itself!

I was just starting to look forward to a nice new mp3 receiver unit.

Thanks for all the tips anyway
