Once again Bush is sticking his nose in and contradicting himself.

Even though the people of Lebanon march in support of Damascus link, pressure is being put on Syria by the US. Why?

It all started as a result of former PM being assassinated, allegadely by Syrian forces. It hasn't been proved. It's as a result of pressure from the opposition that this is stirred up. The US is pressurising for what theopposition wants instead of wht the elected government and the people of Lebanon want.

Lets no forget that the US and France etc. say that the only way for fair elections can be held is after a complete withdrawl of foreign troops and the overseeing of the elections by foreign observers.
Does this new stance now invalidate the Iraqi elections as Iraq was full of foreign troops and the independent observers were stationed in Jordan and never even entered the country?

exactly. And I thought intervention was supposed to be for the benefit of the citizens? Just who benefits from the withdrawl?

I was opposed to the war in Iraq, and am opposed to the US army being stationed there for the forseeable future, but at the same time the situation here is different.

While Bush is being a hypocrite, at least he's going in the right direction for once. Syria have no need to be in Lebanon anymore and had promised to pull out many years ago. The reason Bush is being a hypocrite is so he can whip Syria as much as possible, what with them being evil and all. That doesn't mean he's wrong for making such statements, his "opinion" is right, his reasons are wrong.

Also the people of Lebanon benefit, this way the UN can take control of peacekeeping (a better trained and more imparcial force than Syrian troops) and the election can be held without Syrian influence.
