Making the bid amounts public should never happen. At the end of the day the agreement is between two private parties and by forcing a private person to disclose this information would open the door to all sorts of invasion of privacy.
Well, I'd say yes and no. Persons are free to sell their property privately, but by using an estate agent and all that encompasses, you're essentially making the sale into a public domain sale. By using an estate agent, people would agree to these details being made public. Anyone who's not happy with it can find alternate means to sell their property.

Still disagree! Its not a public domain sale, the agreement is between two private parties. The estate agent is a broker you have hired to make certain representations on your behalf. What dictates whether its private or public is where the money comes from, the money being used is private money. If we did this and you want to go to an insurance agency that brokered deals with multiple insurance companies on behalf of a private person then they would be required to make public the details of every single offer of insurance. There are multiple other examples.

On the other hand when a government agency is spending tax money then the details of that are made public because its public money. In many cases the details are not public until after the transaction is complete to allow for competitive bids. Once a public entity has completed the transaction the details are supposed to go into the public domain.
