Any idea on how the service history affects the value of these ? i.e. If I keep one for a few years and maintain it myself, will this affect the value, since it wont have any service record from a "porsche specialist"

You'd be lucky to get any 30 y.o. car with a complete service history. I reckon if you can demonstrate that the car has been regularly and properly maintained and cherished, I don't think you'll have much hassle. Things might be different in the world of Porsche.

Most 911s up to 993 are well out of the dealer servicing ring. There are some specialists servicing 911s, one in Kells I know of.
I look after everything on mine myself, keep all the receipts, and you should be ok. That said mine is an 'easy' Sc to maintain. I cant vouch for pre 76 non galvanised ones though :o

    Dealgan..
Watch out with the classic ins off nash. you have to be over 30 to insure a 911 with them, and a member of the Porsche Ireland club( other classics are no problem, but 911 are over 30s only).

    :D That's not a problem ! .. well, the over 30 bit anyway !

    Cheers.

I was interested in buying a 911 and bringing it home to ireland with me in the next 8 months or so.

I saw this car but am unsure as to what I should look for-
What are the major things that should be avoided?

Am I liable for VRT if I have lived here for 3 years and will have owned it for greater than 6 months or would it be better to buy a pre 1975 one.

one australian dollar is about 0.59 euro

    Hi Traumadoc,
I'm no expert, but I believe you have to own it for 6 months before you bring it here, and you also cannot sell it here within 12 months.
I dont think there is any limitation on the age/value of the car, as long as it is registered in your name.

Just thinking ... there may be some VAT implication, since it is from outside the EU .. I'm sure someone else on here will be able to tell you better.

    best of luck.

    Yeah Traumadoc,

Normally you would get stung for VAT, but if you are coming back to live here you should be alright. I'm not 100% but I imagine if you get exempt from VRT as you are relocating the same exemption would apply to VAT.

    Nice looking car BTW!

Hey there, just joined as looking for Porsche specialists in Ireland to help me with a minor issue with me own one. But, will leave a little info on my own experiences. Carole Nash will do a classic policy on a Porsche up to an 89 if you do limited mileage. Mine is a 944 S2 Cabriolet and I was 32, but the car HAS to be garaged - I had major issues with them over this, as they insured my car as garaged, when I specifially told them it wasn't. Charged me €760 for the year - which was great, but took ages to get my money back from them when they told me my car wasn't covered after I TOLD them it wasn't garaged! However, Dolmen Insurance specialise in Porsche, and do insurance for same price, and car doesn't need to be garaged. Can't complain about that for a group 20 convertible with a 3 litre engine! Tax is a pain in @r$€; as I only drive car on good weekends, and already gotta pay the man tax on a 2.3 litre Volvo. But tax and this government is another argument! Had the car in UK for a year before I brought it over - cost nothing, and as I have had car for over a year here now, can sell it with no penalty.

After all that, I have a minor issue with the electric roof mechanism - temperamental at best. Have just disconnected it now, so just unclip and push back when wanting to go al fresco (approx 3 seconds total time as opposed to 20!) but would like to get it sorted as after 4 years of otherwise trouble free motoring, I am going to let her go. Anyone know anyone who knows Porsche mechanicals or cabriolet roofs?

    Cheers.

    Hi Crash,
Just saying hello, as I think I've come across you on another porsche-related forum ?

Sorry, I can't advise on anyone to fix your roof.

I'm sure someone will come along with the answer.

    Cheers.

Hi Crash, ...dealgan sorry for going a bit off topic, but crash, did you say that cos you lived in UK and owned the car over there, when you did move over here, and held onto the car, did you not have to pay vrt to register it...are you sure???
