not the staff (i hope) just the stupid ****ING head office

went in to pick up my preordered DS and what response to i get "sorry we can't give it to you unless it's part of a bundle" I mean WHAT THE ****!!!!,i prebooked, stating that I ONLY wanted the console when the manager asked me what games I wanted, manager says yeah thats fine and then I go in there and get this bull****.FFS I am so ****ing pissed off that I had to waste money i cant really spare on a stupid cartridge carry case just so I could get the DS

I know it's only €3 but what happens when someones unknowing parent goes in to get one and they get conned into picking up a bundle. Pure Bullshít

Add to that someone on the counter couldn't tell the difference between a european plug and an american plug (some poor auld fella was exchangin a SP for a DS for their kid) bleedin twit!

    Are they allowed do that?
Ring Nintendo and kick up stink, tell them you're going to complain to Joe Duffy, if that doesn't put the ***** up them, nothing will!

    Gosh, €3

Surely they can't do that? Forcing you to buy useless tat like their own brand travel cases and the like, just to buy the console?

Yeah I would have thought that this might violate some consumer laws. Aside from that, it's bad business practice.

they tried to get me to buy other stuff, if i hadn't started complaining loudly i don't think the fella would have pointed that out to me.

even more annoying, the girl who took my preorder (i think she is a manager) was standing beside him and wouldn't even look up to see what was going on

that's a load of piss, but they're renound for doing it lately, when the ps2s and xboxes were in short supply over Christmas they did the same, it's obvious the DS is going to be the same so they know they can get away with charging a bit extra (just like for the games, I think they're charging €5 extra than the RRP).
I'm not sure if it's against any consumer rights, they'll probably just say that that is the way they're selling the product and you can't buy it on its own. What store was it, by the way?

If you didn't put a depost when it was prebooked, then they can turn around and say, "You can either buy it in this format, or not at all". If a deposit was put on a DS only, then they can demand a DS only.

They are a bunch of clowns in there, went in with my mate as he couldn't decide on buying a xbox or ps2, clown behind the counter started comparing specs, honestly he did!
I just pointed at Project Gotham and he bought an xbox. I think the only opinions they have in that store is the one their manager gives them first thing in the morning or the one the promo from the company gives them, what a bunch of dorks!

That and the fact that they are a bunch of corporate stooges being led by a rope tied to the rings in their noses to recommend whatever they have been told to sell lots of.

Shop in Gamestop, they at least hire gameplayers as staff

I remember the PS2 launch, I could not find one shop that didnt do some crazy bundle offer, I remember the ESB forcing you to buy:

PS2/stand/ridgeracer/memorycard/extracontroller for about £500. I can only imagine what they are are gonna do for the PSP (or PS3 fo that matter)

That's the charge for the extra security hired to get them into the shop from the delivery truck! :D

Can you not do a price match with some over offer elsewhere?

what's wrong with comparing specs? I wouldn't make that the main focus of a decision, but if a customer asked me I'd say the Xbox was more powerful but... depending on what games you're looking for you might prefer a ps2.

Gamestop are charging a fiver extra on the games as well. And they didn't let me use my 5 euro off vouchers  Bloody ridiculous. It's dvdsoon and playasia all the way for me from now on.

nope i'm whinging over preordering something, specifying what i wanted, and getting agreement on it, ringing up and being told to collect the stuff, and then going in and having GAME trying to force me to buy extra stuff in order to get the original item

ie; the principal of the thing

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,761 ✭✭✭✭Winters

Check with the odca [www.odca.ie] and see if they can actually do it. If you had agreed on the console only, and can prove it (Like written or properly, not just verbal agreement) then they forced you to buy extras then thats bad.

Tbh, should have gone for a psp ;)

GAME need a good smack in the mouth.
They are not a specialist game shop, they are a specialist PS2 shop though.
I emplore people to try find any mechwarrior game for example (on Henry street u might see Mech 4: Mercs in budget rack). notice how they put the official control pads away from the consoles and instead put up their inferior Game ones. The only reason i go there is to c if they have any bargains in the pre-owned rack, even then u may only find one every 2-3 months.

Do ur shopping on amazon to save money and frustration, or else go to HMV where games are 10% cheaper if u have their card :)

I think jebus is completely right to be pissed off about this thing. Ok it was only 3 euro for him as he picked the cheapest item but I'm sure as he said loads of unsuspected parents got conned into spending loads on game branded **** bundles.

I have a quicker solution - simply douse some of your old clothes in wee (preferably obtained from an octogenarion) and sit on the street outside Game with a sign reading "will post threads to boards.ie for money". Should do the trick nicely.

not being biased in anyway but i think dawson st is the best game shop in dublin. GAME as a company though need to sort out their prices and deals cause even now that they release games at lower prices other shops always go one better. like hmv and game had mgs3 for 50 bills yet hmv said you get the strat guide for 8 euro instead of 15 when you buy it with the game

GAME also go for that "premium pricing" b*lls**t, Driv3r apparantly is worth 70EU at launch !?! my mate got halo 2 there at midnite for 70 bills, he got an out of date PS2 mag for free aswell!! arent game cool?

me thinks that game is probably in league with the Corleone family of gaming..... the evil that is EA!!

in fairness its more a novelty shop then nething else

GAME always have been and always will be a bunch of planks.
Do what i done,i havent bought a thing from them the past year after the **** i had with them.

Whats with the guys sneering this chap over 3 euros?
It is not the point ,can you not see that?

Would there be something wrong with that? If it's important enough to GAME to get extra cash from a customer I fail to see why it's suddenly bad if it's important enough to a customer not to pay extra cash. The three euros was important enough to the guy selling the thing. And presumably to the manager standing next to him (I notice the manager in Limerick GAME doesn't like dealing with customers).

Besides, the original poster isn't complaining about three euros per se, he's complaining that after being told when pre-booking that he could get his DS as a standalone product only to be told when picking it up that he had to buy it as part of a bundle (as you're probably aware the bundles are normally larger than DS+crappy_case). He only got away with paying a mere three euros extra because he was willing to make a thing of it.

Are you sure its not just GAME in Dublin?

I always had a terrible time with Game in Dublin but now that i am studying in england i find the GAME here to be alot more helpfull and have a better selection of games. The prices (despite being in sterling) never seem to be insane (30 for half life 2 on release).

Its because in Ireland Games nearest competitor is gamestop and they dont have half as many shops open across the city. While here there are 2 other game shops on the same street (let alone the rest across the city), one which does imports and the other has an amazing 2nd hand policy (and selection) which force GAME to take the buisness and customers a bit more seriouisly.
