Guesstimating how many lurkers

    Writing an essay here on Boards as a media outlet.

    Is there anyway of telling how many lurkers there are who have never registered. i.e we've upto a thousand on line at a time now a days, 30,000ish registered users, but how many unique weekly/daily/regular readers. As in how are the ratings?

    Regi might have that sort of information from the log analysis he does. A certain proportion of that "upto a thousand" figure will be robots though.

    a fact I'm willing to over look for sensationalist material!! :)

    Lurking never entered into my head as a means of using boards, but I gather there must be a number who do, just curious as to what that number might be. I'd guess that unlike traditional media we might have more reporters than viewers/readers - I'd just like to see how that stands up to the facts...

    go the who'd online link in quick links along the buttons there, go the last few pages of it and you'll see amongst the guests are several spiders

    It's already happened;

    Apparently the character "DeVore" of the Chung Kuo series, (where DeV got his name) eventually ends up, in fact, as a giant space spider leading an army of androids.*
