We think (the wife and I) that it's a Gold Finch but we could be wrong. Trouble is, the pics don't really show how big it is or enough of the head to be certain.

The yellow bar on the under-wings and the black and white tips of the wings are distinctive of the Gold Finch but the head should have more red than what we can see from the pics.

But the young Gold Finch doesn't show as much red as the adult.
