    Boxes

Boxes is mowstly Gaveen and Mawk. Mowstly. They was chums in skool, Gaveen plays gittar n sings, Mawk plays his drums. They from little Ireland town namea Tullamore, home of the Dew. Now they live in Relatively Big Smoke of Dublin, where they work their asses and play the music on the side. They played as Willy Cleary 666 and Fomblin before taking a well-deserved break from music while at their peak. They concentrateded on other things. Pints. Sleeping. TV. Three years ago they reformed as Boxes. Dave Wows was the bass player, him a good mang, the boys love him platonically. They played loads of gigs and even made a CD, named 'Big ships in the night, small boats in the morning" That's what the bize used to say when they was all boozed up and saying they were gonna do dis, dat and the other. Then the next day they wouldn't even remember saying it, or have no intention of really doing it in the cold light. Then a bad disater struck. Dave Wows got a **** hot job in the sticks and after struggling to juggle everything, an amicibl.. amamib.. ambic.. Dave left the band, friendly like. The two lads pondered their future. Back to the pints. Eventually decided to continue and in March 2004 found a new lad, namea Mick.

In July Nomeansno supported Boxes, but Boxes played first so that they would have more time to celebrate at the bar. The chums then played around Ireland in August 2004 as part of Ballroom of Romance Tour, before Mick departed the scene, leaving Mawk and Gaveen to stew in their own two-piece juices, which is where they currently dwell. So far so mutha****ing good. *Expect a white-dog-sh*t hot new album in the next, oh i don't know, year or so.

    House of Mexico

The bastard children of Robert Schneider and Pete Kember, House of
Mexico make music that lies somewhere between psychedelic fuzzpop and
Enid Blyton's Mountain of Adventure. Having made their debut on Earworm
Records in 2002, and getting playlist approval from the late, great
John Peel and other indie connoisseurs in Europe and the United States,
they're still doing it for the kids but mostly for themselves. Since
their last appearance at the Ballroom, they have released a 7" single
on The Great Pop Supplement that is now completely SOLD OUT!!! (apart
from 2 copies, which will be on sale at the Ballroom).

Their next release is an as-yet-untitled ep in June and they are also
featured on the forthcoming tribute to The June Brides, which features
The Jasmine Minks, Manic Street Preachers, The Tyde, The Television
Personalities and The Legend! amongst many others.

    Some reviews:
"Heart rending psychedelic indie that brings to mind Galaxie
    500.......Smashing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
    Norman Records

"House of Mexico shimmer and shuffle through a dozing haze of subtly
drifting 60’s pop, the classicism of Clock Strikes 13 being curdled to
the effect that what could have passed for psych pop evolves and
mushrooms into the realms of progressive rock with ‘Nadine’ era
Levitation taking command of the controls, impossible not to love."
    Losing Today Magazine.

"house of mexico play driving drone music that sounds like the early
and exciting singles by fuxa. the disortion is relentless and
unforgiving. if you like spaceman 3 or loop -then check this out."
    Rough Trade Shops

    The Immediate:

The Immediate are a band from Dublin. They list Scott Walker, the Velvet Underground, Radiohead among their influences. Recently they have signed to the legendary Fierce Panda label.

"From Dublin, The Immediate have an angular swagger that's pure Franz, but they match it with stumbling bursts of sheer pop joy where they all seem to throb and boil with excitement to a point where the record itself starts to shudder. " NME
