How long should your choke stay on in the morning? Mine stays on for about 5mins revvin at nearly 2,000 revs. I think this is too long & I can literally see the petrol gauge falling as the engine guzzels the petrol.

Maybe it is due to the cold weather recently

How quickly does the car heat up? Lets say you start the car from cold and drive around for 5 minutes and then turn on the heater, how warm is it? If it's pretty cold, then your themostat could be stuck open

If the car is slow in warming up then obviously this will affect the auto choke.

Also, 2000 rpm idle when cold sounds a little high. I would have thought it'd be more like 1100-1500 rpm with the revs dropping to 700-900 once the car warms up fully.

The car is actually quite quick at heating up. Mmm maybe 2,000 was a slight exaggeration but it's definitely above 1,500rpm.

What type of carb and choke mechanism has it.
If a bimetallic strip, may need an adjustment.
If vacuum operated, maybe a thermo/vac switch needs replacing, if water temp sensing, maybe the thermostat.
