Is there really a need for a physics/chemistry,biology/medicine and science forum?

Surely it could be reduced to two:
    Science and Medicine

Astronomy/Space could also possibly be tied in with science, but I'm not totally sure on that one.

Yes there is a need for these forums.

Explain why you don't feel they're neccessary?

They were created with the old Science forum was split and I think they've been more successful as seperate entities rather than just one general science forum.

I see where he's coming from. While we're at it, we could delete all the user accounts with less than 10 posts. It might deal with all the server problems.

The Science forum gets very little attention, but the Phys/Chem and Biol/Med forumns seem to be doing fine. There are far more unnecessary forums.

    Hasselhoff.

yeah because loads of people just register and never post!whats the point with that
and the real unnessesary forum is david hasselhoff

With regard to the forum it should be about quality not quantity. If I have a phys/chem question I know that the people reading and replying to threads in that forum already have an interest in or a knowledge of the subject matter and as such will be able to respond to my thread/question better than someone in a general science forum. Just as I would post a thread that would be of interest to a wider range of people in the Sci. forum.

I don't know why people get their knickers in a knot over this kind of thing.

Many people register accounts and don't get past the initial sign up, also plenty of people use boards to read the content and perhaps send PMs etc. they may have no desire to contribute at this present time, but may choose to do so in future. To cull a load of accounts based on post count is a bit silly in my opinion. Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but it has already been stated that these unused accounts aren't what are causing the server problems. I would imagine the admins would have already taken steps to remove these accounts were they affecting things that much.

The people with less then 10 posts have absolutely no effect on how the server runs.

This is the "feedback" forum. There's no need to be so hostile and confrontational

I'll just second that, I only had about 10 posts on boards for the first 5 months or so....i've been actively spamming since :D

I'd hardly call it that, it was merely an observation, but if you choose to take it so personally then I guess there's little I can do about it.

I'd imagine that piece of data has very little effect on the server. It's the people who are actively using the site that make the difference there.

maybe those with more than 3000 posts should be deleted

In Arts alone - Anime / Manga. Photo Challenge, Audio-Video Editing, Comics, Creative Writing, Film Awards, Film Reviews, Mythology, Prime Time Cartoons, Television Awards, Theatre.

    - Sci-Fi / Fantasy - Battlestar Galactica, Discworld, Horror, Red Dwarf, Star Wars, Stargate, Wanderly Wagon.

Its a delicate balance between over-generalisation which leads to people fearing to post about a specific sub-topic and over-specialisation which leads to insufficent people to create a critical mass of posters. Everyone has a different opinion about where that balance is.

To be honest, the only forums I'd see as "unnecessary" are the likes of the Mustard or David Hasselhof forums. However, if it helps keep the spam away from the "normal" boards, it's all good, I'll just ignore them...

I think that one of the things about Boards that keeps us different and a bit bonkers is our willingness to do run with stuff like the David HassleHoff thing. Mustard was an experiement that went so well we kept it. We've always done stuff like this and I hope we'll continue to...
