Belle and Sebastian at the Bowlie Weekend. The Supernaturals in Whelans a few years ago runs them close.

Honestly? Jove in The Hub, last Summer. Pissed as a fart. But the band blew me away with their raw energy. WOW!!

That was a fúckin amazing gig! :D Won't ever forget that, ever! :)

Damien Rice playing solo in Vicar Street. The gig bordered on a religeous experience.

If it's strictly bands, I was absolutely blown away by James when they played support to The Verve at Slane in 1998.

Yeah, Damien Rice solo in Vicar St. was unbeleivable, truely memorable.
Also Flaming Lips in Vicar street on the Yoshimi tour was probably one of the best gigs i've ever been at.

has to be the Flaming Lips also on the Yoshimi tour

it was the Big Day Out festival in australia (Gold Coast) January '04, kind of dragged a friend over to the tent hoping to hear maybe the one song I thought I knew (Bad Days) but had forgotten I knew so much of their stuff not least She Don't Use Jelly and Race For The Prize

it was just a mind-blowing audio-visual experience overall

within months I'd bought 4 of their albums

can't wait to see 'em again

I was the one that requested (and got) "the professor et la fille danse" when he called for a request :)

Probably more predictable but, radiohead, at the point last november. (and every other time iv seen them)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

Belle And Sebastian. Only saw a 40 minute set at Oxegen but it was probably one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

I'd love to see a full set. Damn them and their lack of Irish tours.

That was a good gig alright. I'd never really been into them before I caught that and tbh the albums just don't seem to sound as good as I remember the gig as being. They seem quite lacking in the energy of their live performances.

    The Smiths, SFX, 1984

    How old am I?

old? I'd call getting to see The Smiths live Lucky tbh!

theres so many. but probably bowie last year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,592 ✭✭✭Ro: maaan!

Belle And Sebastian also. By giving a second or third I'd be implying somehow that they came close.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 134 ✭✭JimboPope

I remember seeing Belle and Sebastian in the Olympia, Stuart Murdoch smashed a guitar on stage, Pete Townsend style, not exactly guitar smashing music. I think he was having trouble with one of the songs, very funny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,269 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

They mentioned that at the Oxegen gig alright!

    some memorable gigs

The Smiths, National Stadium, Feb 1986 - the second gig I was ever at so I just soaked it up (first was U2 in Croke Park the previous year)

The Cure, RDS, July 1989 - amazing set, think it's the best gig ever

Pixies, National Stadium, Oct 1990 - 35 songs, relentless

Happy Mondays, McGonagles, Mar 1989 - aggressive and raw, The Shamen supported

My Bloody Valentine, SFX, May 1992 - far better than their McGonagles show. Glad I wore ear plugs

Sonic Youth/Nirvana, Top Hat, Aug 1991 - pretty good but the support band blew them away.

Wedding Present, SFX, May 1991 - touring their best album, Seamonsters.

The Fall, Crawdaddy, Aug 2004 - amazing gig from my favourite band

Pavement, Rock Garden, Feb 1994 - good crowd from college went, great atmosphere.

Very strange electronic/jazz/krautrock stuff with titles like "Rape Scene" and artwork that could possibly get you arrested in some countries. I don't know if I like his solo work at all but I'll go just to see what it's like. I've always had an interest in Spiritualised and I saw him with Coil last year and that was amazing.

Last year Neubauten did a concert for their fan club only in Berlin. There was only 500 people in the audience. The next night was a proper public concert with a couple of thousand at it. For both of them I was part of choir made up from some of the fan club. Basically we had three days of rehearsals before the two shows and had to write bits of lyrics and follow Blixa Bargeld's directions during the concert (most of it was brand new material). The end of the fan club show was the entire audience playing on table made from scrap metal by one of the band. We were given a beat to play by the band and they played along with the audience. The whole thing was recorded for a dvd.

didn't they get banned from playing some classical theater in germany after drilling a hole in the stage, but in fairness what did the owners expect?!

It was the ICA in London. They also had a cement mixer filled with glass spraying the place. Descended into a riot and stopped after 20 minutes. I've a bootleg of it, sounded like a laugh.

I wish I'd seen these guys live before they broke up. But my favourite gig had to be ATDI's fellow Texans ...And You Will Know Them By The Trail Of Dead's performance at Witnness (sic). I've never seen a band project so much raw energy...

Berlin, Vienna and Paris to see Neubauten another three times. It's their 25th Anniversary tour :D

radiohead - olympia. That was one damn good gig. The first time i saw radiohead, and they were better than i had hoped.

Next in line would have to be the shins. They were amazing at oxegen last year, but unfortunately they don't seem to be touring ireland any time soon, so i'm unlikely to see them again.

Radiohead at the Olympia in 1996. Between the Bends and OK Computer so there were a few new songs getting early outings. The Olympia gig in 2003 wasn't too shabby either.

And depending on your definition of indie, David Byrne in the Ambassador a couple of years ago. What a legend!
