Webmonkey is always a good place to start.
http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/multimedia/shockwave_flash/

If you can't afford Flash then you might be well-advised to look into SVG which could end up taking over from Flash as the standard format for Flash-type multimedia on the web. And it's free too.

Take a look for it at http://www.webreview.com
you can get a plugin from Adobe, or else get IE5.5

It's got a lot of potential.

I'm sure it won't be long until someones written a GUI for it too.

Flash is really a program were u must take one step at a time... U can't learn some basics and then try your hand at interactive navigations until u can make multi scene movies... Most of the tutorials go on this principle and i suggest it is follow. Otherwise u will run into some pitfalls later on when u got a lovly big shckwave file with a simple problem that mucks it all up...

As for sites...... flashkit.com is pretty good. smile.gif gl

yup i think the tutorials on flash 5 suck. The ones from previous versions were a lot handier to use. Having said that if ya can stick the ones that come with flash 5, then do cos they cover most stuff...Eventually.

ahh some sites:

If you're really serious about learning Flash, buy a book. I have the "Flash 4!- Creative Web Animation" book (by Macromedia Press - ISBN 0-201-35470-5 ) and it is excellent. - I'm sure they've got pretty much the same book out for version 5...

Go to - Macromedia.com > Store > Books & Training - for more info

G'wan... giz a click

I have only just started learning Flash and like Bard, I think books are the way to go.

I stuck to free tuts on the net for learning other stuff like HTML but I found it hard to find good Flash 5 tutorials that took you through most features thoroughly instead of just being vague introductions or concentrating on how to do one effect.

I found a book called Foundation Flash 5 excellent. You won't know every menu command but you would defintely be able to make flash sites after reading it.

Also, its sister book Foundation Actionscript is great for learning Flash's coding language.

Both books cost around £30 and are published by Friends of ED. They are available from Amazon, Easons and most other places.

One site I did find a useful tutorial at was http://www.trainingtools.com . I only did a bit of it because it goes on forever but it is easy to follow.
