Sorry Mutant_Fruit but we recently changed passwords to the radios and I haven't the latest. I requested them from NetOps, but it seems as if they are enjoying a long week-end. Will get it done soonest.

The purpose of the test, just to clarify, is to test 2Mb a an entry level Boradband product to replace our current 1Mb as an entry level product.

    Cheers

so does this mean breeze 1mb will be upgraded to 2mb, if so when and will there still remain a fair usage policy rather than a cap?

Did something happen at around 11pm there tonight??

I have been getting 200k a second for the last 20 minutes???

    Have IBB started upgrading connections???

    Interested (and happy) : ))

The short answer is yes - IBB will upgrade their 1Mb service to 2Mb. A decision will probably be taken later this week or early next week.

And yes, IBB will continue to use a fair usage policy to police usage, rather than a cap. Fair usage will kick in if a site has a number of heavy users on it running 24/7 downloads and uploads, which is preventing others from accessing their fair share of bandwidth.

    Thanks for the reponse.

Would a gig a day be considered fair?

I have been getting a gig a day since october.

I would consider that to be very fair.

Anything over 8 gigs a day and I would think that would
    be pushing it.

I got IBB installed 3 weeks ago and have clocked up a total of 21 gigs uploads/ downloads, so I was just wondering what would be considered fair.

not sure if your aware, but most Major ISP's don't allow their core trunks to exceed 30% capacity at anyone time, if they do they upgrade the link.

Perhaps at peak times, bursting is maxing out 1 or more of your links and this is causing issues.

I remember a few weeks ago, mid feb .. pings to heanet were fine as you have a direct feed to them via Inex - but everything else was piss poor.

IIRC it was Packetexchange that appeared to carry the traffic externally that i tested.

    Paul

Don't know ANY ISP that would upgrade international transit when it hits 30%, perhaps you do.

None of our links would ever hit peak as we have bursting arrangements in place with our carriers. International Transit would never be an issue. The only area where we have had some problems in the past had been on our own local transmission network, which we have upgraded and are now continually upgrading to prevent a recurrence.

IBB is not perfect. Far from it. Issues will arise from time to time, but IBB will always work hard to eliminate them. Some customers will experience problems from time to time, and they will be fixed. Sometimes the problems are more complex and take a bit longer to eliminate, and sometimes simpler and quick to fix. IBB upgraded core routers and capacity mid February and that caused a few routing issues. That may have been the cause of the problems you experienced.

So what happens when this fair usage policy kick in? Do we get or connection dropped for a while or is our speed just lowered?

Try doing a few tracert's for us, to see where the bottle necks are occuring. Its more than likely some tower acting up.

IBB would never disconnect a client under the fair usage policy. The client would simply be traffic shaped to enable others reasonable access as well.

Fast Internet access for:-tele working -freeing up the home phone line-unrestricted uploading and downloading . A superior home product suitable for families with high usage and Home Networks.

Looks like it doesn't apply to the breeze product, but as far as i know, it does apply for ripwave. Unrestricted means uncapped, unfettered, unmetred and unlimited. I can't see them advertising it as unrestricted, and then restricting you... but stranger things have happened :p
