My download speed just dropped big time from my 2mb. down to about 500-600 but my upload are about 2500 anyone else finding this?

    sounds contention related???

less likely for you to be contended in upload as uploading just aint as popular ;)

su_dios and gsand, since no of us really know whats going on this is what I think. Maybe you need the 1 meg package to be upgraded to 2 megs. So you prob ably will be changed to 1 meg on your current package. Kinda makes sense, but havent heard anything. In factt he only thing I heard was this thread and a reply from the thread starter. Does anyone else feel that paying €50 a month is crazy for just basically higher upload speeds (comparing with smart). I paid for a faster service than everyone else and now i'm getting the same. It is really pathetic imo. Shouldnt Ibb put us up to 3 megs in order to compete? Makes more sense to me. Keeps them in same postion as they started. But they can't even get the 1 meg service right so how they gonna cope with all the past bandwith problems etc??? Shouldn't they have informed their customers as to their upgrade plans? Another minor oversight as to not leaving the customer be informed...

thanks for the info!all i know is i'm paying the same price for the 8:1 contention 512kbps pack as the 40:1? 1mb and 2mbs are but i dont think i'm even getting the 8:1.it can be very slow at times.ibb didnt even send a letter to inform us of the 1mb upgrades and discontinuation of the 512...or an email.eircom is looking better and better by the day..

anyone finding ibb slow?i am connecting 231 up and down i rang them and they said it was within the min content. its sht slow like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,821 ✭✭✭Skud

I'm on R and H hall mast. Its been really spikey since about friday but I'm getting alright speeds. I take it your on the 2meg one? I feel if they updating it then your bound to get some spiking off the masts. Welcome to the world of ibb. Ring them tbh. Usually if there no problems with your mast they try and sort it out. It helps if you know what you're talking about because they won't bull**** you. Tbh I had loads of probs with them. I'm thinking of smart or if east up their cap them when my contract runs out. As I said already it would be nice if they sent a mass email to let us know what was going on...

Do a tracert www.irishbroadband.ie in command prompt. Then you can ring them if any of their routers is pinging high. Also ask them to clear the radio, that might help you.

Yeah i am on R&H hall too i rang them just said it should improve later. if not ring them. If it doesnt i have to put up with it. 231 is shocking like.

    as i said above :)

the 1meg and 2meg basic packages are 20:1 so theres a line between paying for reduced contention vs maximum speed. however u can get 8:1 1meg and 8:1 2meg for about 20euro extra a month i think its 70euro or something...

yeah essentially you are paying more for upload-128k to 2meg is quite a leap in terms of upload. you are also getting unlimited or so they say even though some people think shaping may be in operation on all packages.

i think as above you are right that you would need to be on 1meg to get to 2meg which is why i rang on friday(still on the 512k myself) and was told they would call me back which obviously they havnt but ill try and catch them 2moro again...

Now I've been told I won't be upgraded as IBB have no plans to upgrade 1mb customers...... Now I am just confused!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

Who told ya that? Being honest some of the Ibb Staff arent Helpful at all. Just wanna get rid of you like me yesterday. As OldTitan said there will prob be something abotu it this week. They will be upgrading people at some stage alright as that is what the testing is for. They were doing tests on mine yesterday to see how it copes during peak times. And not very well at all judging by the speeds i was getting.

I have the email in front of me right now

"Will IBB be upgrading users from 1mb to 2mb in line with Eircom's recent upgrades?"

"The answer is yes, IBB will announce the changes to their packages this week"

Then I get another mail from someone else telling me I won't be upgraded!

    Their support team are muppets!

i'm on the breeze plus package in the knocklyon area, and my connection stopped working between 12 and 1pm today.

though the service has been fine for me in general.

btw, i run smokeping from a server in the US to constantly monitor my connection for latency and drop outs of my connection. so i have logs of all this (well to a certain extent)
