Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Cloning Drive with Ghost

Just after confirmation that cloning with Norton Ghost will only copy active files and doesn't copy previously deleted content on the drive(ie sector by sector).

Reason for asking is that I need to make a backup of a drive before I destroy the original, but the backup cannot contain any recoverable deleted data from the original drive.

AFAIK that's true, same for NTbackup and Partimage.

DD on the other hand can do a raw sector by sector copy.

If you are that paranoid might be an idea to wipe the blank areas of the disk and cull temporary files and swap files as they can also leak data. have a look for eraser etc.

The one thing I can't confirm is block size, as to if the backup app reads in the full block or just to the end of file. It's extrememly unlikley that there would be any data in remainder of the block from the previous file , but a phone number or credit card no will easily fit in 512 bytes (or more depending on how data is transferred sector/block/allocation unit/buffer size)

IIRC there are apps to wipe the dead space at the end of the file accocation blocks

Ghost will only do a sector copy if you specify this with an extra switch.
