Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Router firewall problem (?) - "Cannot connect to mail server"

Hi - you might send me over to the broadband forum, but I'll try here first.

I just got hooked up with Netsource broadband through a Linksys Wireless-G router (WAG54G) yesterday (with hardware firewall), but since then my POP3 won't work.

The error when I check through Outlook is: The connect to the server was interrupted...the server responded- ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to mail server!"

The error through Mailwasher is:The POP server is not responding appropriately, ensure that you have specified the address of a POP server.

I have Zonealarm and AVG installed and AVG mail-scan set. Even when I turned both of them off, the error remained. The only thing that has changed is that I'm going through the router firewall. The Linksys support site suggests changing the "MTU" on the firewall settings but the latest firmware doesn't allow me to change the manual setting (1492).

I'm not very au fait with broadband technology so I'm wondering if anyone has hit a problem like this before and could suggest a solution?

    Thanks

I'm answering my own question here but a mate just made a suggestion and it has worked. Switching off AVG doesn't work but changing the connection that it uses does. Embedded in the program is a parameter that was identifying my dialup connection - I simply switched this to LAN and now the problem is solved. One for the knowledge base..
