IOL Connection "fun"

    I'm not gonna ask "anyone else" having these connection problems because I know of two others anyway but...

    What...on...earth...is...going...on...?! I've never seen IOL this bad, so to speak. Constant "interruptions" - losing connections in general. I'm not being disconnected but my access to the majority of the net just disappears. Sites known to continue working are: http://www.iol.ie, http://www.eircom.ie and http://www.google.ie. Haven't really tested any others. I decided to ping iol.ie during the last "down" (which are happening regularly, twice on the last 10 minutes) - the result was: "Reply from 193.95.132.34: Destination net unreachable." which is slightly surprising, as the website was loading as that ping was running.

    </rant>

    Belcamp exchange here. The other two are on Whitehall and Clontarf. Seems to be a fairly widespread issue. :confused: Quite unpleasant...

    (And to be nice to me I "lose" connection, again, while hitting the submit button! :rolleyes: and then boards goes offline for a while. Fun night!)

    ... I just noticed that that "Destination net unreachable." appears anyway. Even from Eircom. That always done that? :)

    Oh and in the wait time my connection has started playing nice. I feel like posting anyway though.

    Well heres a few things to note.

    1. iol.ie does not respond to pings.
    2. eircom.ie also does not respond so your ping "analysis" are false.
    3. if you are having issues loading pages then do a tracert to them and your DNS.
    4. there is no reason for you o be able to view one page i.e google, and not another.
    5. did you change ur MTU?

    I used to have the same problem....wouldnt load any pages etc...

    IOL's DNS servers seem to be always acting up.

    Change your DNS settings to point at someones else's DNS server/s...end of prob.

    Same problem right here.

    @ThaMasta
    What other DNS servers are there. Could someone give me an IP?

    195.218.116.2 == UTV's DNS server. Always worked for me even though I'm on Esat. ¬_¬

    Do I put that into my modem, router, PC network connections or all 3?

    Thanks

    WTF is going on? I'll never finish the rest of my 0.8GB cap in the next few days!

    The second tracert I had changed to UTV's dns on the PC. Why is it still going to ESAT?

    Reset your router. Simple, but effective.

    I already explained that this wasn't an isolated incident. And I made the point that I realised I couldn't ping the website anyhow.

    The websites were unreachable. The fact that some were still accessible was brought to my attention by a friend who had the same problems, I didn't discover it until then.

    Anyhow. As has been said in the other thread on "Slow IOL BB" INEX was on the fritz last night. That's probably the cause of it.

    It went away anyhow. Of and I had rebooted my router a few times during the day, when it initially went down, so that I could check if speeds had changed or anything.

    I've had no problems since about 4am last night, though I did sleep so wasn't checking then, but I didn't lose my connection to Redbrick so it wasn't interrupted again.

    ...thanks for the input though. :)

    Wahay! I thought I was going crazy! - Or at least my router.

    DNS just intermittenly disappears on me from time to time. This all just started in the last week. Most recently (tonight) I had a download from Kazaa continuing as normal, I was browsing boards.ie as normal, but google, and other sites just dissapeared. I don't know any IP's off-heart to ping.

    It's like they keep reseting their DNS or something. It's a real pain. I'll ping 66.249.85.104 (google) next time it happens.
