With all the talk of 512kbps going up to 1mb, I'm just wondering how you check to see what your connection is now. I don't see anything in the control panel. I'm sure someone can help anyway. I'd like to check it soon and then again after April 1st or 8th, whenever they upgrade.

For true speed check: http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ is the best one out there.

Just download something off a fast server belong to microsoft or something and see what speeds you get...

    try a performance test

test site the test is on the top right
    If ur on 512k u should bet about 380 - -420 k
if you are on 1 mb I would expect tot get closer to 1000k

I did the test and got 388k, so that's right on the mark for 512k, cool I look forward to checking that again in a week or so.
Thanks everyone for replying so fast.

Ya I pressed back and it gave me 83626.7 kbps
which means you can download at 10 megabytes a second.
    Wouldn't that be nice ....

The "74472.7 kbps" is the size of the packet the php script sends to urself...
The time it takes is then converted by another script into your speed..
    tut tut

The Irish ISP test is quite good - tried it on two connections at it got them both right. This one was fairly impressive :)

    http://www.irishisptest.com/bandtest/results.php?kbps=82747.5&downloadtime=0.297&KB=3000&recorded=1

Another good test is to click on this link, wait for a few seconds and see how fast your connection goes up to:

    http://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/3/i386/iso/FC3-i386-disc1.iso

    Hello all,

I'm connected to IBB 1Mb Breeze beaming to Killiney.

According to bandwidthplace, my connection is 850-900 kbps average

According to irishisptest, my connection is 890-915 kbps average

So from the figures above, the two sites are fairly accurate.

When I download a file from the net, average download speed is 80-120 KBytes/sec.

Of course itdepends which server you are downloading from & how many people are connected along with yourself etc etc. My contention ratio is 20:1.

    Happy downloading...
