    Well by Rail:

    06.52 Balbriggan to Connolly arr 07.29 (train to Rosslare Europort).

    Change at Connolly onto Red Line LUAS to Heuston.

    08.05 Heuston to Westport Intercity service, arrive Newbridge 08.29.

    ==========================================================

    07.47 Balbriggan to Connolly arr 08.29.

    Change at Connolly onto Red Line LUAS to Heuston.

    09.00 Heuston to Kildare Commuter service, arrive Newbridge 09.31.

    ==========================================================

    08.13 Balbriggan to Connolly arr 08.57

    Change at Connolly onto Red Line LUAS to Heuston.

    09.30 Heuston to Waterford Intercity service, arrive Newbridge 09.57.

    ==========================================================

    09.50 Balbriggan to Connolly arr 10.27

    Change at Connolly onto Red Line LUAS to Heuston.

    11.00 Heuston to Kildare Commuter service, arrive Newbridge 11.35.

    ==========================================================

    10.44 Balbriggan to Connolly arr 11.17

    Change at Connolly onto Red Line LUAS to Heuston.

    11.45 Heuston to Newbridge Commuter service, arrive Newbridge 12.21.

    Your rail ticket would also be vaild for travel on Dublin Bus route 90 and the LUAS between Connolly and Heuston.

    No bother. I was just trying to give you another option available to you.

    Edit: Look at a map - you should get a good idea from that!

    Have looked at map but there seems to be a number of options, just seeing if anyone knew the best one!!

    Also went on to AA site but they only give you a route with motorways. RAC give you a route but dont tell you when you enter a town or the name of any town which you dont specify!

    I have a feeling it will be Naul, Garristown, Rathoath, Dunboyne, Maynooth, Straffan, Clane, Sallins then Newbridge.....

    thanks for your help anyway!

    While I admire your honesty, many people with provisional licenses ignore this law so why don't you?
    Motorways are our safest roads and it would be considerably easier to get from Balbriggan to Newbridge using the motorways

    I looked up the route with http://www.aaroadwatch.ie/routes/
    If you check 'caravan route' and 'avoid toll charges' it routes you through the city centre via Crumlin!! (but still uses M1, M50 and M7).
    Unchecking these goes the simpler, safer and faster M1/M50/N7 route.
    It claims it is 47 miles and will take less than an hour.

    Basically: M1 south, exit onto M50 south (just beyond airport), to N7 (2nd exit [Red Cow roundabout] after toll; 1.80 is toll), becomes M7. It's an exit off the M7.

    How exactly is one supposed to learn how to drive on a motorway?

    Five minutes observing motorway traffic from a bridge will give you some idea of how many people did learn...

    Follow the R132 (old N1) to Dublin, follow N7 to Naas, go through Naas, follow directiosn for newbridge.

    I don't think the back roads are a good idea.
