In fairness to TV3 they said that Italian media said he was dead, they added that it was still unconfirmed.

I stand by my previous statement. It's a simple case of wanting to be first in with the bad news...any REAL news team go and check/douublecheck before they go to air with something so final and so important to many viewers as this.

Bad and all as RTÉ are at least their journalists actually have some qualifications and an air of professionalism...

Yes Nostramadus did write total ****e but he did it so that it couldn't be deciphered before the event in question took place. And he did predict the rise of hitler.

Sorry if this has already been asked but do we get a day off? He's a international figurehead and all...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 240 ✭✭Ms Beanbag

No, that was someone trying to stir up a little extra fear by taking passages from other quatraines and mixing them together in a way that would look like a canon one.
Yeah, I just researched it now. Seems it was a hoax alright...
I deleted my previous post. Didn't think it was appropriate to start debating about it!

Did you get a day off when the Macedonian President died in February? He was an international figure and all, you know...

yeah, but the pope is the leader of a religion that has 5 billion followers. I'd say he's a bit more of an international figure than the macedonian president!

How much longer can he last? I had Sky News on al day @ work making sure I didn't miss anything. I doubt he'll be alive on Sunday anyway.

And what's about this 'Nine days of Mourning' someone went on about on SKy News?

Roman Catholic church has 1.1 billion followers.

we might get a day of mourning on his actual funeral which be on the sixth of nine consecutive days of mourning by the vatican. if he dies after midnight tonight (italian time), the vatican shouldn't announce until 9am the next morning which will mean.... next friday off work and school :D

that said, i think the Pope's passing is a very sad and momentous occasion and i hope that you all include him in your prayers.
it wasn't jusst TV3 that covered the 'pope is dead' rumours c. 7:45pm, channel 4 did too, and they're usually really good about these things. best stay tuned to sky news methinks

I heard on a sky news report an hour ago that thats how many catholic followers the pope has. That report is probably being repeated over and over again.

afraid not, he took the name of the previous pope who served only a year.

    1.1 billion chatolics
    2 billion Christians

I swear that the Guinness WR book in 20002 said there are only 130 illion Chatolics worldwide? Either GWR or Sky News are wrong.

He lasted 33 days !!! Lot of conspiracy theories about that . Was a nice guy too - the smiling Pope. Rumour is that he was a bit too much of a reformer and they "disposed" of him

I hope his replacment is better... revives the religion, he didnt do much!!!

Women preists and gays marrying and condems and stuff im all for a modern world!!!

Haha ... he got killed on the job! LOL

TV3 are back with a bulletin saying "Italian media reports were incorrect". Well duh, you morons. Maybe you should have checked proper sources before having a special broadcast telling people false things!

    Ugh!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭limerick_man

Well all reports are saying Italian media says pope has lost conciousness!!!
TV3, Sky, Live 95fm, CNN, MSNBC all except RTE who havent gotten the news yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭p~b

TV3 are Ireland sbest news service!!! The are faster at reporting any news than RTE because they have better connections!!

We all suffer from dodgy connections betimes

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 849 ✭✭✭mentalimplosion

eh WHAT are you talking about. RTE knew about the italian media reports saying he'd died, but were basing their news wisely on the vatican statements. and yes, a bit odd seeing everyone on rte dressed in black at 6pm news...

I heard that they are going to bring back jesus from the dead.... its been done once, it can be done again... :)

You mean with that machine they keep using to reanimate the pope?

I don't think they can use it on Jesus till they solve the drooling problem :)

There utter rubish, I saw there coverage of the "M50 Sniper" and nearly kicked the sreen it was so over hyped and full of misleading info. Reporting the Pope is dead before he dies was stupid they should know better then to belive everything they see on TV.

Sky are ready to go with a 6 minute long obituary.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,679 Mod ✭✭✭✭Rew

All the media keep obituarys on high profile people while there still alive. They update them ever so often and are ready to run a moments notice.

Indeed they do... In the BBC they've been updating it recently. The Queens one is regularly looked at.

and they're often mistakenly displayed on news websites. ABC news accidentally ran sharon osbourne's obituary on their site a while ago and i think colin powell or someone of similar power in the us had their obituary accidentally run on cnn as well.

I recall Viz came up with the classic "Baked Bean Brown Bread" tabloid heading for when the Queen croaks it. :D

Arinze will be the next Pope.

Have y'all noticed how thoroughly horrible Irish people are being about this? What are they trying to prove? "Oh, look ma, I hate the Pope, and Catholic stuff and all that"
