I've noticed that I get nearly 20% less than the maximum on Eircom business bb, no matter what the time of day as you mention. I cannot understand why. How do you know about this 20% overhead?

I have wireless broadband at home and get the full 64KB/s. And I used to have Esat Business DSL and always got my 64KB/s.

The overhead is from the ATM links that eircom use.

    IOLBB+, Dolphin's Barn exchange, < 1km from the exchange.

    Router says: 2048/128

    adslguide.org.uk says:
Your Connection Direction Actual Speed True Speed (estimated)
    Downstream 1652 Kbps (206.5 KB/sec) 1784 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 104 Kbps (13.0 KB/sec) 112 Kbps (inc. overheads)

'Actual Speed' is the amount of useful data that your connection can transmit/receive per second. The 'True Speed' figure includes an approximation of data overheads (non-useful data) and is estimated to be around 8%. 'True Speed' is for informational purposes only and is not used in any ISP rankings.

    http://www.irishisptest.com/myspeed says
Your download speed is 1.71 Mbps
Your upload speed is 104 kbps
    Quality of Service 99%
    Round trip time 33ms
    Max Pause 30ms

Are people still seeing consistant upgraded speeds?

I was getting decent speeds this afternoon around 5, but now I seem to be down to pre upgrade speeds.

    Everyone still happy out there?

I dunno what to call it but my connection acts weird, ok I do a speed test and a get arround 220kB/sec (both on Adslguide.org.uk and the irish one) - which I think is brilliant, however if I go to download say drivers from ATI max I seem to get is 100kB/sec.
In general it only seems to go fast for the speed test and not for all traffic, also file sharing is a still at pre upgrade speeds regardless of what client I use.
Rarely it will peak above 120kB/sec.
To me its like the connection is fast but just can't ramp up to the full 200kB/sec for some reason, I guess theres a more technical way of saying it :)
Has anyone else had this kind of thing or is it only me, (ballyboden exchange)?
anyway i guess a jump from 512 to 2mbps is great and shouldn't be sniffed at no matter how effective it is or isn't, Hooray for eircom!

I have the same problem, from 3 - 6 today i had constant 215kb downloads...then from 6 onwards, my connection was VERY slow, taking ages to download webpages and speeds were around 30kb when downloading files, is everyone having these problems? i wonder is it because of the upgrade or is it because its off peak and more people would be on, i hope this will be fixed soon

These are my last 12 tests to uk sites...

It's safe to say that the connection is not very steady yet, but it has only been a day or so and I will give it time to settle down. At least ten days as Esat have stated.

I don't think it allows enough timie for your speed to attain it's peak.

anyone else have a 2MB line displayed on their modem homepage, but the top speed is around 1716kbs? I tried to trick by going into expert mode in my modem home page and restarting my modem, but this is still the case.

Is this normal? Or will it reach it's full 2MB staus only after all the upgrades are done?

On Home Plus Eircom package and on the Ballyboden exchange. Was delighted to find that I was getting transfer rates of around 210k/sec last night. Unfortunately I won't be able to enjoy it for the next few weeks as I'm over in Copenhagen for work ... bah !!

Dammit, same story again today, as soon as the evening kicks in...the speeds go crappy, this better be temporary, its annoying as hell

Mine seems to be staying at 2mb now. Is a steady 212k decent for 2mb ?

    Yep.

I have actually gotten WORSE. I get download speeds at about 25kb/s, no matter what website I use, and online, my ping has jumped to about 400 in most games, even in my clan server where it is normally 140 or so.

I mean, wtf? Anyone got any problems like this?

    I spoke too soon, a steady 50k from microsoft.com.

You're crap, care to suggest a file to download to test the speed?

This maxed out my connection anyway *click* . It's big, so don't forget to cancel it after a while :)

I get 210- 223kps for that so my connection is grand. :)

How fast is their upload though? Surely if it is only a 2Mb upload you won't be able to download any faster?

I downloaded a linux distro from them at 3.5MBytes last year.

    3.5 x 8 = 28mbit/s!!!!

So this one's uploading at 28Mb/s? Nice.
Has anyone managed to get any higher than 2Mb download on this yet?

got updated to 1mb today, now downloading at 100-110 from that link.

Are your connections constant 210/100..etc depending on your service or do they increase/decrease like a sine wave???

Going from 210-to-150 and back up again...continueing throughout the download???

    IrishISP Speed Test:

    Download Speed: 2.57Mbps
    Upload: 204kbps
    Quality Of Service: 98%
    Round Trip Time: 4574 ms
    Max Pause: 47ms

    Needless to say i'm a happy camper ! ;)

anyone finding torrents are staying at the pre-upgrade speeds?

not getting the most out of it at all.

if I download a couple of linux distro's from esat's ftp server then it's maxing out just past 200kB/sec, but torrents are still hovering around 50-80kB/sec, which isn't much of an improvement.

does anyone have a good legal torrent that I could use to test that's running at full 2mbps speeds on their machine?

    thnx.

nice one, hopefully the same joy is happening to others.. anyone on the 4mb packages getting their proper speeds now?

Another thing i dont know if this has been asked already but since most of us are getting these much faster speeds even within a couple of km from the exchanges has the overall distance to which you can receive broadband been extended? now that people are getting 1mb/2mb from 4.5km away surely people can get 512k up to 6km? it may not be the full speed but at least it will give alot more people far away broadband who are currently stuck on dial up?
