m8 same here my modem Prestige 630 series is giving me terrible speed after it says its capable for 2Mbit

    Your current bandwidth reading is:

    321.70kbps

which means you can download at 40.21 KB/sec. from our servers

If it's just those testing sites giving funny results, it's possible they're just under too much load from the update. Alternatively, everyone may just be trying out their faster lines at the same time :)

Same here, it's currently about 256k down for what was a 2mbit line (before upgrade).

Same here am on Clicksilver plus and usually get about 420 at best but this today my speed seems to be getting worse each time I check last time was 149.70kbps from Irish Isp.

Same here. Netopia reporting 2048 down. max download speed I've got today is 30kb/s.

On eircom Homeplus on the dbn1 pop (Crown Alley). What exchange is everyone else on?

Has anyone logged a fault with broadband support?

I'm OK - Esat 1meg on Whitehall Exchange:

    710.4 kilobits per second
    Communications 710.4 kilobits per second
    Storage 86.7 kilobytes per second
    1MB file download 11.8 seconds
    Subjective rating Good

I've noticed since around thursday that sites have been loading a lot slower and they still are today (despite my line now being 1Mb).

File downloads however are better, so Im guessing it is due to heavy useage and they are probably still doing upgrade stuff to the lines.

Ok - based on what I've been reading on
    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=241532&page=2

high line attentuation may be to blame for our speed probs. Can some of the peeps with the slow speeds find out what their line attentuation is?

I only know how to find it out on the netopia 33xx models.
    telnet 192.168.1.254

    ZyXEL DSL/Router Modems:

Type 192.168.1.1 into browser and press return,
Enter Username/Passwors as admin/1234 <-These are the defaults!
    You will see Main Menu,
    Click Maintenance,
    then Diagnostics,
    then DSL Line,
    then choose "Downstream Noise Margin".

You will get results like this:
    relative capacity occupation: 19%
    noise margin downstream: 44.5 db
    output power upstream: 12.5 dbm
    attenuation downstream: 14.5 db
carrier load: number of bits per symbol(tone)
    tone 0- 31: 00 00 00 00 00 02 23 34 04 44 44 33 32 22 22 00
    tone 32- 63: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 22 23 33 34 44
    tone 64- 95: 04 44 45 55 55 55 55 55 55 55 55 55 55 55 55 55

    tone 128-159: 44 44 44 44 44 44 44 44 44 44 43 44 43 43 43 33
    tone 160-191: 43 34 33 33 33 33 33 33 33 33 33 33 33 33 33 33
    tone 192-223: 33 33 33 33 32 22 22 22 22 22 22 22 22 22 22 22

This is the most important line IMHO:
    noise margin downstream: 44.5 db

I HAVE THE SAME SPEED ON 2MBit Broadband as a 56k modem
    This is a damned joke

Teething problems perhaps? My connection keeps dropping (DSL and ACT lights go off) and I can only download at ~25KB/s when it was ~170KB/s at 4:30 this morning...

  • Registered Users Posts: 396 ✭✭ai ing

Been getting dialup sppeds here in Celbridge since the upgrade. Around 50 - 70 kbps all day. but the router is reporting 1024 down, from another thread im not the only one in this area getting this.

It depends on the server you are downloading from. There are many bandwidth tests online to check your bandwidth speeds. It is doubtful that this is the speed you'll reach max on every site/download. Try downloading a file from a fast server, example www.microsoft.com , they generally fast downloads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,462 ✭✭✭Peanut

I don't think that's the problem Webmonkey, this is happening to a number of people around Lucan/Celbridge so I guess Eircom are working on it.

  • Subscribers Posts: 3,704 ✭✭✭TCP/IP

I just rang eircom tech support and there is a server problem but they are aware of it. By the way I am on the Newlands Cross exchange

Don't expect them to be working on it. i would ring them up, they'd ignore you for ever otherwise. Goodluck with it

I think someone mentioned that they switched off their router / modem and when it restarted.. they were on top speed.

Anyone else try this yet? Am away from the router right now... well, when i say away.. it's all the way downstairs!

Yeah ring eircom because then a magical button will be pressed and all will be ok.

It's obviously teething problems so be patient until tomorrow.

Have done already, they didn't seem to have much information about it though.

Eircom are working on this. It is affecting users connected to the Cellbridge and Lucan exchanges. It is being looked in to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,306 ✭✭✭ArthurG

Awful performance on Lucan/Ballydowd exchange as well. Router reporting 1024 down, i'm getting about 70kbps from IrishISP test. UTV customer BTW.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,321 ✭✭✭OfflerCrocGod

I've also been losing my connection every now and then and the speeds don't stay rock steady but I can still hit 195 to 200 over the long haul (eventhough the tests all say 205 to 210)

We are a company in Mayo and we use UTV Broadband for €29.99 inc vat and its mega fast. The irony is that our friends in a printing company next door who use Eircom broadband have asked us to download big files on their behalf as their speed is questionable and it takes us about 25% of the time.

We both use eircom phone lines, so it has to be the servers in eircom which are either stuffed with users and bandwidth issues or they just don't care about providing adequate services and think that people will just accept it.

Well, we didn't and are we are so glad we stuffed them, and we even get free off-peak phone calls to Irl and UK as well.

Few problems yesterday, Eircom restarted the server, and about an hour or two I'm back. I'm in Leixlip.

Know any big files on heanet, that I can check my speed with, by downloading?
