So what's everyone's views on this?

    Can Liverpool cause an upset???

I honestly think we can, if ever there was a time that liverpool can turn them over it's now and it's at anfield.

Let's hope it passes off peacefully too :)

The squad is weakened big time so I am not looking forward to it at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 519 ✭✭✭ianomccabe

xabi alonso came through a fitness test earlier today and should be added to the squad although would be a real shock if he played any part at all. Would imagine it's just for emergencies.
Would imagine the team will look like this? Not bad if u ask me considering the injury crisis at the club. Biscan is being offered a new contract so hopefully that'l give hin the confidence that he seems to thrive on

    Baros
    Garcia
    Riise----Biscan----Gerrard----Nunez

    Traore----Hyypia----Carragher----Finnan

    Dudek

I can't see liverpool beat them but it's 11 V 11 so anything can happen. I,m sure it will pass of peacefully, Didn't the meet since Heysel in a friendly without incident?

    Good luck Liverpool.

Ill go with a Pool win, 2-0.

Odds on this game arent good, more or less equal for some reason

was watching sky sports news at lunchtime, showed the liverpool training session and both Cisse and Alonso took full part in it! Great to see them getting back to fitness.

Tough game for both teams, if both play best available 11 and all on form Juve will win easily, if both carry recent form into game Juve easy win.

So i going with 2-1 :D pool 89 minutes of dominance, with the 1 being the goal that knocks them out of the tie.

Even though the squad is extremely weak at the moment I think the pool can pull through this one, they'll be up for it!

    I'm sticking a tenner on a 1-0 win!

It's gonna be tough and unfortunately I don't see Liverpool going through over the two legs with the current list of absenties against a full strength Juventus. It's a pity it's on TV3 too (for many reasons  ) as there's gonna be a lot happening in the build up to the game which I'm sure Sky would have shown as their coverage usually starts 45 minutes before hand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

I'm going into this confident. Another Leverkusen performance and i'll be happy. I don't mind getting knocked out if they play well, but will be very dissapointed to get hammered if players dont bother showing up.

Is warnock back mike? i didnt think so.I'd like to see him play if he is fit, he looks like hes maturing into a really solid defender, a la Carragher. Plus Riise seems much happier as a winger.

    G'wan the pool, stuff them.

Why are you even hinting at a possibility that it wouldn't go peacefully? Yes they've met more then once but this is the first competitive game.

muppet was answering me when he said he was sure it would pass off peacefully. I hope he's right, as for the away leg i'm not too sure. I don't think its too much of a secret that both clubs are concerned about tomorrow's game going off peacefully

Two Jeckyll and Hidey teams in many respects, Liverpool probably moreso. Hopefully Juventus will win both legs and be on their uppers for the semis, though they could well cack themselves if Liverpool get some early scores.

    Buffon

    Zebina--Thuram---Cannavaro--Pessotto

    -Nedved--Camoranesi--Emerson--Zambrota----

    -Ibrahimovic--Del Pierro-

Somethin like this???? maybe i'm way off

It will be tough for Liverpool tomorrow. They have been excellent at home in europe this season so that is a positive. I'd say it will be a 1-0 defeat to Juve.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,701 ✭✭✭Bacchus

mike, I thought Pelligrino is cup tied and isn't Warnock still injured. Great if he isnt though. It'll probably be Troare and Hyypia to start.
Any thoughts on John Welsh playing? He seems to be doing good lately.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

    Starting XI
    1. Buffon, Gianluigi
    21. Thuram, Lilian
    27. Zebina, Jonathan
    28. Cannavaro, Fabio
    19. Zambrotta, Gianluca
    16. Camoranesi, Mauro
    20. Blasi, Emanuele
    8. Emerson
    9. Ibrahimovic, Zlatan
    10. Del Piero, Alessandro
    25. Zalayeta, Marcelo

Team that beat Reggiana 1-0 on sat. Dunno how someone said 2 Jekyl and hide teams , they top of Seria A all season now milan ahead on GD. They havent lost in CL when it mattered. And coming into this bang on form.

Best quote i heard this season came from their manager " we kept Milan pinned down in our own 18 yard box for the entire 90 minutes " :D

Great News for Cult Hero Biscan?

Zambrotta plays left back, and you have 4 attacking midfielders there :) Either the atrocious Blasi or the talentless Tacchinardi will probably team up with Emerson in the centre, with Nedved floating wide left and Camoranesi on the right wing. Trezeguet is almost sure to start, barring injury, probably in front of Del Piero.

As for Juve's two-sidedness, it's mostly in Europe that they blow hot and suck cold. Outside the comfort zone of Serie A they can be very flat and uninspired.

I have a good feeling about this game. I think Liverpool can get a good result. However I still think they will lose the tie overall, but Ill go for a 1-0 tomorrow.

us to win 3 games on the trot? wonder what the odds on that are!

again, i also i have a good feeling about tomorrow night. I know the injury list is long etc etc but c'mon, it is Europe after all...a night of magic it'll be for Liverpool. :)

    i hope!

I dunno, I am worried about this one. Its very hard to call Liverpool games this season as I am never sure which team will show up. Baros will be up for it though and eager to make up for his silly mistake against Everton. He has played well all season in Europe. It will be a special night in Anfield either way you look at it and the atmosphere will be electric, one thing for sure, its great to be in the competition at this late stage!!

Liverpool to sneak it 1-0

as far as i know tacchinardi is suspended for the game????

Also i think i heard trezeguet was going to give way but i suppose its all paper talk at the minute.

Hope it lives up to what people are billing it as and there is a special european night in Anfield

i have a thing about wearing jerseys of teams i know we are better than like my spurs jersey i dont see them as a threat so i can wear it . . .
i have a juve jersey if they win tomorow i can never weat that jersey again :(

A juventus win is a given - by how much depends on whether they want to kill the game off in the first leg or not - 2 different class teams. The Juvenus attack versus Hyppia could be embarsassing,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,267 ✭✭✭p.pete

I have visions of us playing superb and getting a draw or just maybe scraping a win - and then getting slaughtered in the return - but hey, there's every reason why we shouldn't go through but that doesn't mean there's no chance. Don't think I'll be able to watch it but I'll still be stressing...

they rarely score more than once in any game.
    its far from a given.

The more I think about it, the more I think Juventus will win both legs sadly. If we had anything like our first team available, I reckon it would be different but with all the injuries and cup-tied players, I just can't see us getting a result.

As for trouble, there will definately be none at Anfield, but I wouldn't like to be going out there for the return leg. There's some lunatics among the Juve fans - especially the Curva Sud crowd and if they get their way, people will get hurt.

I'm actually disappointed Pelle is cup tied, I think he is a much better defender than Sami. Alonso will be on bench... :D

    oh my ****in god
    a bit of optimism
Juventus scrapped through past real madrid,
Real madrid who finished below leverkusen,
    Leverkusen who we demolished.
We are in the 1/4 final we have all the chance in the world of winning this game.

Juve to sit tight tonite, possibly take a 1-0 home to Turin, then 2-0 in Turin, pool will not be able to live with Juve at all, playing Leverkusen has given a real false hope to Liverpool, could come back to haunt them tonite

Just stating my opinion - I could be wrong - then again I ocould be right. thats what good about football.

I think Leverkusen were very poor in the last round - there's no use comparing that team with the one that topped the group containg Madrid, they were very understrength perticularly in defence.

I just can't see the Pool scoring against Juve in either leg. They kept Madrids attackers quite. Italian defending is far superior to any thing else in Europe.

    yes did you see leverkusen??
    we scored six against them.
Madrid are rubbish now and as much as you say it was comfortable for juve it took them a long time and a rubbish goal from a defensive stand point ie. the madrid defenders just stood there where as the jamie carraghers of this world would of put there face in front of the ball.

Liverpool have it all to do. I dont think Juve are going to hammer Liverpool at anfield but liverpool wont score. 1-0 to Juve.

    Will Juve not play a 4-5-1 ?

Liverpool will score tonite. Liverpool will also score in the 2nd leg. Winning the tie depends on how well our midfield plays, if Gerrard and (the very underrated) Biscan play as well as they can, we've a decent chance of going thru. I would rather see Pellegrino in defense than Hyypia tho, Pelle looks a bit awkward but gets the job done while Hyypia isn't anywhere near his former self and seems half asleep at times. Pelle is decent on the ball too and can pass the ball out of defense.

At this stage of the tournament, all the poor teams are out, so theres no gulf in class between the teams that are left, some are better than others on paper, but football as we all know gets played on grass, anything can happen :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,057 ✭✭✭TheMonster

Juve have conceded 2 goals in the entire competion- 1 to madrid and 1 to tel aviv in a nothing match at the end of the group stages. This is what Liverpool are up against tonight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 631 ✭✭✭Take it

Liverpool will not/can not keep a clean sheet these days and for a team like juve to hold of the attack force of Real Madrid our Milan Baros, I don’t feel will, have a chance (although he did say he would really enjoy it if we pulled out juve before the draw) so i think Juve will play conservative away from home and Liverpool will not want to let in a away goal so I would say 0-0 if I had confidence in the Liverpool defence but unfortunately I don’t so 1-0 Juve (mistake from Hyypia maybe a peno) but all to play for in the 2nd leg,

its going to be a BORING game both teams waiting for the chances to appear rather then creating them!!!

Once there goals and a decent game its all good, still reckon 2-1 to pool.

I can't see any circumstances where Juve will lose this game or the tie. Its one of the best defences in Europe against one of the most erratic "big" teams in the premiership, 1-0 to Juve on the night 3-0 over 2 legs.
