Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi
I have quite a lot of old books I want to sell due to being on the verge of buying a house. I out a list in the For Sale forum about 2 weeks ago and again today. They are (pretty much) antiques. But I am wondering, can anyone tell me how much old books are worth? Or even give me an estimate of value based on my post?

    Many Thanks.

    Seanie.

Most likely they arent worth very much at all.Collectable books are usually first editions by well known authors,hand-illustarted guide books(plants, birds etc, usually victorian or earlier) or historically important works.Condition is very important, books need to have dust jackets, original bindings and no marks, tears or staining of any kind. Many books published from the turn of the century onwards were produced inlarge numbers on very ordinary materials and as such arent rare or valuable.Check your collection for first editions and any books of IRISH interest(these are increasingly sought after).Antique shops if they buy books at all tend to buy them bythe yard for decorative purposes.Funnily enough,O Henry is one of my favourite authors but there is literaly tons of his stuff around. He is very popular in America, particularly in New York but collectors again tend to favour first editions only or books in impeccable condition.Keep them, books are always nice to have!

I am in the USA but I think there is an Auction House up the country near you called MEALYS(?), they have had book auctions before. There are probably book dealers in Dublin. . Try past sales on eBay. or GOOGLE the titles.
