I was asked to call Eircom BB again to check the line compatability for BB yesterday - I did so, and was told it'll be another week... FINGERS CROSSED!

Rang Eircom AGAIN today - They had NO RECORD of my line up for test - ?!!
That would be the third time enquiring about Broadband capability on the line...

I will be contacted by an engineer as soon as the work is done...

Anyone know why it takes so long for Eircom to 'strengthen a line' ?! In their words, I'm siting right at an exchange, and clonee / castaheany / Latchford green (my estate) should present NO problems for BB.

    To recap:
Jan 05 - Moved in to new house, called Eircom - was told line up in early Feb.
Feb 05 - Told line would be ready mid Feb.
Mar 05 - Told line ready early April.
May 05 - Told line ready end June / July.
    June 05 - Line in.
June 05 - Told by Sales - Broadband test FAILED - Should look at wireless.
June 05 - Rang Broadband services, told line just 'NOT TESTED'
June 05 - Wait three weeks and call 4 times to be told 'work is underway'
    July 05 - Connecting at a solid 42+ kbps (56k) - Not a split line.
July 05 - Told by Broadband services 'no record of any services carried out on my line' - Line 'Not tested' but should be no problem in my area... Instructed operator that I work from home and DESPERATELY need BB - Operator tells me he would flag my account as URGENT.

July 15th - Waiting to hear back from Eircom Broadband services...

It's just got to seriously frustrating levels for me... I realise they're probably pretty busy, but is it asking too much to have a log of my calls and not repeat myself on multiple occasions - I realise it's fairly easy to ISP bash away... I just want me Broadband!

I'm not sure whether to get prematurely 'excited' but I checked my phone number on the online Eircom Broadband checker and got a PASS!

I'll tell ya one thing, if I'm told it fails again, I'll be chuckin rocks at Eircom HQ as long as it stands...!

Gonna ring them today and get a concrete answer...

An Eircom engineer who installed the phone line told me I'm 'relatively close' not sure exactly...

Eircom Broadband services told me my line was appearing as a fail for Broadband, but it was probably just a new line that needed a little fine tuning. They said it shouldn't be a problem, and I'd get a call when work was done. I just checked this morning and the Eircom site says I can order away... line is enabled!

Gonna call then all the same to be super-sure.

Ah...so its a new line yet to be tested!

I thought it was eircom doing their job and trying their best to get as many BB connected as possible.

Still happy news for you...and I presume you will NOT be using eircom as your BB provider?

    SORTED!

Just got off the phone with Eircom - Line is Broadband enabled!!

Thanks everyone for all your help...

well done sticker, it only took slightly over 6 months to get a Broadband Line installed in a new house in Dublin in 2005 but if you hadn't stuck with it it coulda been 2 years like some .

The wireless router is offered by Eircom only I think.

I think "sticker" is getting BT 2Mbit Home.

Just called BT- I'm going for Broadband plus 2meg 'option 2'. Because I've had Clicksilver Broadband in my apartment over a year ago (contract long up) I'm NOT privy to the bells and whistles new customer offer - ie Won't be receiving the €15 for BB for first 4 months!! - Bugger!

I've heard, (not sure if it's true) that some punters are paying for 2 meg connections, but only getting 1 meg transfers... so I've asked them to test my line to see if it'll hold a stead 2 meg connection, they're ringing me back this afternoon.

Anyway - going for talk time 2 (free national / international calls.)
    Line Rental
    Option 2 - 2 meg BB
Total: (no special offers for me!) €64 a month.

To verify: If I go with line rental with BT, I pay Eircom NOTHING / ZIP / NADA - Correct ?!?!

Will ask them to speed it up then! Cheers again Drapper... I'll ask about router! Details above ^
