Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There was a thread about the South Pole shut down earlier - it looked as if it was a set up from the start and IMO it was correctly shut down.

My question is ... what kind of person starts a thread like that and what are they trying to achieve? I'm a total innocent ... do they get a kick out of sitting alone at thier computer screens and sniggering away to themselves about the big trick they have played on everybody? and how it took everybody ages to realise it was only a big trick? and then everybody looks really really silly? ... except the person who started because they knew it was a trick all along !!

Is that it or am I missing something here?

There are a number of people who plague boards with multiple accounts. Generally they've been banned time and time again and just like make a nuisance of themselves. Its no big hassle, the moderators and admins are used to it. Other times its somebody new trying to be funny. Dunno why.

First time its happened in here though; I'm a little dissappointed as it could have been an interesting discussion on expeditions.

Welcome to boards.ie and thanks for the support :)

actually the south pole thing was actually legit imho.
the only problem was I guess, he guy didn't know that the mods would move it if they thought it would belong seomwhere else.
but hey, what would the Orcs do without Trolls doing the heavy work for them ;)

Legit - How so? 2.5 million is a lot of sponsorship for any expedition let alone one that hasn't even reached the planning stage. The guy didn't even know where to get permits.

Does sound a bit suspect alright. Friend of mine went there a couple of months ago. Took some amazing photos. He wasnt there for long tho, and stayed at the coast. He even went for a swim in 0 degree celcius water =0)
I cant remember what he had said to me as regards permits... It was probably handled by the guides, and the guys who own the ferries.
