Well Wise Man, can you have a look at what is wrong with my connection then?

    I'm on 2Mbit - 8:1 contention ratio connection.

For the past month (1 month tomorrow exactly) my ping has been atrocious. It's up and down and up and down then ok for a few hour then up and down again... It's really frustrating... I keep ringing Customer Support but I never hear anything from them... All they say is "I'll get on to the NetOps guys and give you a ring back tomorrow morning" but they never do ring back...
I just don't know what to do. This thing is costing me a fortune every month and it's doing nothing for me at the moment. I don't even care about download/upload speeds. All I want is good ping... :(

Ticket Number under which this problem has been escalated: #36115

I've already PMed you my personal details for that very same issue. Let me know if you need them again...

Hi wise man, my DSL has been down since the upgrade and I doesn't look like Eircom are too bothered about sorting it out despite multiple phone calls so I'm thinking of moving to IBB. My neighbour already has it - I live in a semi-detached house. Would you need to do a full install or can you use his aerial? I have a Belkin wireless router - I presume it would be fairly straightforward to set this up? Any idea what the current wait for installation is?

    Thanks

no you would need your own antenna as each on has its own unique IP address. as for the waiting time its normally 2 to 3 weeks from when we receive your paperwork

    Thanks for that

Unfortunately the problems returned the evening of 19th April - midnight to

I am attaching some of the erratic high pings to show what is happening: (
Normal pings for the connection are between 10ms to 40ms. This problem is very erratic as the connection was fine again this morning. Hope the time stamp helps with identifying the problem.

    Hi,

I was wondering what is the nature of very high latency my Ripwave connection has (Cork/connection to R&H Hall). I've read on the forum here that people experience ping times of >= 100ms using Ripwave. Usually, though, I get average of 350 ms or more, or very big packet loss, like right now:
    C:\Documents and Settings\victor8600>ping -n 10 www.bbc.co.uk

Pinging www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.240.111] with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 212.58.240.111: bytes=32 time=185ms TTL=242
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Reply from 212.58.240.111: bytes=32 time=355ms TTL=242
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Reply from 212.58.240.111: bytes=32 time=362ms TTL=242
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Reply from 212.58.240.111: bytes=32 time=262ms TTL=242

    Ping statistics for 212.58.240.111:
    Packets: Sent = 10, Received = 4, Lost = 6 (60% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 185ms, Maximum = 362ms, Average = 291ms

    C:\Documents and Settings\victor8600>

Why is that happening? The connection indicator on the Ripwave modem is constantly yellow (moderately good signal), signal quality is quite constant.

Download speed and ping are both good :)
Upload for some reason has been quite low for the past week or so... It's usually higher than the download speed (?).

But as I said, as long as my ping is good I'm a happy camper! :D

Hopefully it will stay that way! If not, I'll post on this forum and give you guys a ring ;)

afraid im from the 3rock mast as far as im aware....it picked up a bit 2nite again, but its so random it boggles the mind

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 414 ✭✭gsand

    same here enigma

my connection has been absolute trash off 3 rock last few days-bad pings, crap download/upload speeds(i havnt been downloading anything much so cudnt be qos), and add that to me still being stuck on 512k when ive been entitled an upgrade for 6 months leads to...

im trying to sort out smart this week as no one on boards or at cutomer service/technical support from IBB actually seems to be bothered at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,630 ✭✭✭gline

on RTE mast, major speed problems last 2-3 weeks, its like im on a 512k connection or worse sometimes (as low as 100k connection sometimes). i was just wondering on the IBB it advertises the buisness 2meg breeze for €40 ex vat . Will this be upgraded to 3meg soon like all the other connections being upgraded??? or has the site been updated so this is the new speed??

I have ordered it anyway, but in my past experience it takes months and Loads of calls to get things done with IBB. Woman on the fone said i wont be notified when/if they update my connection to the buisness breeze 2meg :(

    White Van - 05 D ... rest was a blur ...

Believe it or not I just had an IBB install this afternoon that is why I was watching this thread ... noticed when they were testing was a bit up and down speedwise - seems to jump quite a bit ... particularly the upload speed ...

I thought I was going on to the Atrium but I am connected to Ballycoolin - the guy could actually see the mast from my roof ... amazing as I am 4km LOS at least away ...

I rang them and my connection seems to be like a 1 meg line now witch is a lot better than the 25K i was getting. The guy on the phone tried to tell me that a ping of over 150 should be acceptable. Not whem all my mates on eircom are getting 25-30 I told him. Why do they say things like that are they hoping the people who ring up are idiots. Well im back to 1 meg and I dont really care i`ll stay there as long as my pings are good. Im not bothered with all this 2 meg stuff. as long as i get 1 meg and it works I dont care at this stage. Ivev had so much down time since Ive gotten IBB I just want it to work.
