    anyone have a good one or know where to get one? I'm not having any luck here.

    aalib might be what you're looking for, havent used it myself. http://aa-project.sourceforge.net/aalib/

    I think he may be trying to read text off an image file. If so, and you're working with MS or Java, then have a look at www.kofax.com. It's been a good while since I worked with kofax but it was very good.

    Mr. Original poster, what do you mean? ASCII Art? Steganography? OCR? 8-bit->7-bit encoding (UU/XX/Base64/etc.)?
