Chelsea arent out of the woods yet, bayern are very strong at home and only need a 2:0 win.

Jose Mourinho will be in Munich's Olympic Stadium as he hopes to oversee Chelsea's passage into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
The Portuguese coach is serving the final game of his two-match touchline ban as The Blues look to build on their 4-2 advantage from

Mourinho was not at The Bridge last week but he will be present on Tuesday as Chelsea aim to reach a second consecutive Champions League semi-final.
Chelsea will be confident that their defensive durability will enable them to preserve the two-goal cushion they secured on home soil.
The visitors are minus two full backs, though, as Wayne Bridge and Paulo Ferreira remain sidelined, meaning Glen Johnson and William Gallas will fill in on the flanks.

Scott Parker and Arjen Robben are still missing so Mourinho is unlikely to tinker greatly with the team which started against Bayern last week.
With Mateja Kezman absent due to tonsillitis, Didier Drogba will lead the Chelsea line and will hope his physical presence again puts the Bayern defence under pressure.

Chelsea's direct style of play last week drew criticism from the German giants but Mourinho has no need to change a winning formula as he closes on back-to-back Champions League titles.

Bayern have beaten Premiership opposition already this season and a repeat of their 3-1 success over Arsenal would be enough to see them through to a last four showdown with Juventus or Liverpool.

A disputed injury-time penalty from Michael Ballack gave Bayern optimism for the return leg and they are confident they can overturn the deficit.
Their quest to dump Chelsea out of the competition has been boosted by the return to fitness of Roy Makaay and Claudio Pizarro.

The strike duo missed the defeat at Stamford Bridge but they are available for Tuesday and will be key to Bayern's plans.
Felix Magath is also due to bring Martin Demichelis back into the side after the midfielder missed the first leg due to suspension.

Demichelis' return is likely to lead to Owen Hargreaves being dropped, much to the England international's chagrin.

    ***************************

I cant see liverpool advancing either but as a liverpool fan i hope the hell we do but it will be very tough. No gerrard and maybe alonso will play a half at least.

But hopefully not from a Liverpool point of view - back to the good old days with 4 central defenders, wide midfielders pulled back to fullbacks and the the remainder (bar the keeper!) sitting on front of these (preferably around the 18 yard line).

Given Juve have only let in 4 (is that right?) so far in the competition I'll be happy (delighted) if we get a goal. 2 in the first leg was unreal but we have it all to do, at least there'll be no complacency...

Juve conceded 3 at the weekend, still gonna be extremly tough, Rafa says if we need a goal in the last 20mins he'll brng Cisse on: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N148449050412-0942.htm

Bayern to win 2-1 tonite, with Makaay and Pizzaro back it will test Chelsea but they are not invincible, but still think that they will go through

Juventus to score 3 but pool to nick one, depends on the Juve who turn up, 1st half from 1st leg, then pool will take it, team from 2nd half of 1st leg then who knows.

Sneaky feeling u could have 2 English teams in next round

Trezeguet is out for Juve, but given his recent form I don't think it will make much difference.

I'd really like Chelsea to get knocked out, not cause I hate them, although thats a factor.

Cause it'd be blamed on the lack of Mourinho, and probably rightly so, and he'd be well pissed off, and then hopefully he can go away to Serie A or something, or at least leave Chelsea :)
That said, I think it will take a mammoth preformance from Bayern to defeat them, but they did beat Arsenal 3-1 at home and lose 1-0 away. I think that shows people the difference between their/everyone's home and away form.
Either way, It isn't by any means any easy match for Chelsea, and I really want Bayern to score first to see how Chelsea respond.

I demand the Juve-Pool game has its own thread! :D

Okay tonight I see a either 1-1 or 2-1 just dont know who to. Chelsea would have to be a bit inept to blow it really.

Tomorrow...well who the hell knows? Cisse to score the winning goal in injury time? Two early goals from Garcia and Baros or Riise then "all back to my place" as Pool set up two banks of 5 with Baros reading a book on the edge Buffons area?. All I'll say is I think Juve will be found out...or Pool will go down fighting to the last.

    Mike.

    I just saw Chelsea's team:

    Cech

    Carvalho - Huth - Terry - Gallas
    Makelele
    Cole - Lampard - Duff
    Drogba - Gudjohnson

Is this a change in tactic?
    Playing a diamond 4-4-2 style?
Or maybe a 4-1-3-2 or something

    Its different anyway
Maybe Cole will play in the middle?
I think they might be a bit lacking in the midfield imo, Tiago normally does a hell of a job breaking up attacks early on

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 477 ✭✭abccormac

Well, Chelsea won't be sitting back defending their lead from the look of that team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Its interesting, personally don't think it will work it, think it will make them weak in the middle and I think they have to score to win this game with this sorta formation, and I don't fancy their chances. But I'm biased :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,390 ✭✭✭galwaydude

its a very strong team by the looks of it.I like the midfield of duff lampard and cole with Makelele sitting in front of the defence mopping everything up.
If it goes along the lines at barcelona then chelsea will sneak a goal and win the tie overall on goals scored on agg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭Jivin Turkey

Its the same team from the first leg, aside from Huth for Johnsen hardly a bad swap.

Chelsea to win tonight and go through at a canter.

    thats that.
Amazing defensive preformance from Chelsea, absolutly amazing, that said, a somewhat lucky display. But a goals a goal, and thats that.
    Great goal by Drogba.

    ---

    p.s. about Lampard.
He is an amazing finisher, world class, I don't doubt that, theres a strikers instinct in him, but that said, I honastly think he played **** tonight as a midfielder, and did nothing but the goal, infact I can't remember seeing him much at all except the goal. The midfield has been bossed by bayern, who controlled the game, but couldn't get anything in the goal. Chelsea's possesion has all come from Dorgba Cole Gudjohnson and Duff. Lampard did **** tonight, except take a shot which might have been going to the goal, but was saved, and was then deflected into the goal. After that I don't think hes done much at all, you must be watchign another game.

MOM for me has been Makelele, absolutly unreal, cutting down every attack as much as humanly possible, containing Ballack to only a handful of chances, which I think is a great game.

Its all this media love for Lampard that really gets to me. Put it this way, I just heard Townsend say Lampard is the player of the season. Henry has 30 goals and 20 assists this season. He should be player of the season, after Terry.

that was some goal by drogba. great cross by cole. i mean, great cross.
i thought he was going to stand on it and waste time.

i thought munichs last goal was a real good finish as well.
exciting match. thats what great european football is about.
i think the last 4 or 5 chelsea matches have been fab football to enjoy from a neutral point of view. id like to see them win this year. i think they are the best team in the tournament, the most exciting team.

but i did think their defence was shaky today. i thought they were all immense, except for duff, who i thought was just a bit quite. didnt do any runs, just kept cutting back, but he played a possession game, and thats ok. makalele was awesome as well, and terry played out of his skin.

quote of the match though has to go to whoever was commentating on itv, when gudjonson cleared of the line said 'what fantastic movement, he stayed on his post....'
