My dad drives with a very light right foot, and has gotten 67mpg from a peugeot 406 2.0 hdi. Its a 70 litre tank, this works out at roughly 1100 miles.
Even with me driving, the car gets 900 miles to a tank. ( though the tank costs almost €70.
Wow....that is excellent for a car that size

    '97 523i (2.5L) - I don't monitor it or I would probably consider selling the car!
I do know that a tank of fuel (~70L) lasted over 650 miles last year in France (driving mainly on autoroutes @ about 90mph)

    My car:

Citroen Xsara 1999 Coupé 1.4i. Get about 480 miles average out of the tank, with the most ever almost 525 miles. Great car overall. Tanks capacity is 54 litres I think.

Cost of such mileage? Always shop around

    Micra 1.0 200-250mls on €30. All urban
    Fiesta 1.1 200-250mls on €30 All Urban
    CRX 1.6 250-300mls on €30 All Urban
Astra 1.7 TD 450-500 on a full tank. Dunno the cost.

2002 Hyundai Accent 1.6 DOHC automatic(!)
12.5 gallon tank. Light comes on with about 1.9 gallons left.
Almost 300 miles per fillup. I whip out the calculator on my phone and check the mpg at almost every fillup, and it's always 30.5mpg, give or take a couple of tenths.

Driving is pretty gentle and maybe half and half, but on american roads, so it's probably the equivelant of three quarters highway, one quarter urban in Ireland.

It costs $18-$20 to fill the tank. don't hurt me :)

edit: all in US gallons. Multiply by 1.2 to get imperial gallons, so 36.6mpg and a 15 gallon tank.

    Toyota Landcruiser 3.0l Turbo diesel
90 litre tank most I have ever put in was 85litres
    current price 97.9
Usually get round 500 miles per tank, depending on throttle usage.
Urban= never really checked as don't drive in cities much
    Long term average 29-30 mpg
Cruising @ circa 50mph gives big dfference.

I get about 190-210km give or take twenty from 15-16l on my Bandit 600. =]

    I usually get 190km out of 16l although once I got 187km from 18l
The 210km was was with 15l while being really really really nice (I was five days from payday without a penny).

I can get about 35-38 mpg from my 13 yr old CRX with mostly town driving but quite a lot of restaint is required to achieve it.

I've known it to deliver 55mpg when driving like a granny on open roads which I find pretty very impressive.

Nissan QX 2 litre V6 auto.

My mixed driving average 33 mpg.

Wife mixed driving average 30 mpg.

Old model QX manual was about the same, comfort and power when needed.

Ford Transit old model diesel average 30 mpg.

Mitsubisi L300 00 model 2 litre turbo best ever recorded 18 mpg.

    All above mixed driving.

BMW 530d Costs 60 yo yos to fill and depending on how much of her horses you like to use you can get up to 700 miles to a tank. The worst I get is 550 to 600 miles. Not bad when you've 193 bhp to play with.

Nissan 300zx twin turbo, 20 euro @ 1.00eu a litre gets me 60 miles (motorway). Im not sure around town, I would say way worse.
Porsche 911 sc 20 euro gets me 110 miles.

    1997 1.6L 8v passat

hmm, a week of urban results in 21mpg! I have a heavy foot and all, but I think I need to look into this. Plugs are nice and clean, wonder what it might be.

on main road\motorway driving its nearer the 34mpg range.

    diesel car here I come!

Could be out of tune, or it could just be the result of a heavy car and a smaller engine. (relatively).

Check your tyre pressures. A lot of people underestimate the effect on fuel economy of having soft tyres , but you can really chew petrol especially if all 4 tyres are under-inflated.

Other than that, try a more relaxed driving manner and see what mpg you can get from it. 21mpg sounds low, even with lots of welly

pressures get checked weekly, as with the oil level etc. Running 28psi.

he he, the last car I had, the tracking was so off I added 100Km to a tank when it was corrected!

unfortunatly this car is perfect (touches wood), other than the fuel economy. Even when I drive economically, its heavy enough on juice.

[random thought] maybe the idle settings are the problem, the car spends a lot of time under 1500RPM in traffic, must get it plugged into a laptop and see if there is anything arye [/random though]

It is definatly underpowered, but to get a 1.8 nearly doubled the insurance cost. Silly!

One thing I've noticed is that I'm getting slightly less mpg since the introduction of metric speed limits. I do most of my driving on M and N roads and have sped up slightly with the new 75 mph and 62 mph limits on these roads. I don't do much driving on R roads which of course now have a slower limit which means more mpg. The other day I was on a good R road and was doing 50 mph and got 54-55 mpg over a distance of around 15 miles. Not bad for a heavyish 1.6 petrol car.

    2004 1.4L Megane Estate

Computer says avg of 34.5 MPG!
Poor enough I thought, can these computers be trusted as accurate?
