Is the QoS going when the introduce the full 2 meg to every one. Or the option of a 3meg with QoS. This is what old titan was offering, or rather polling or opinions on either option.

Havent heard very much from him on boards lately.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

Once again, my 2meg connection is like ****. I'll be making a call to tech support to see what the story is. I don't even have plans to download anything today, but i've been limited to 256/256 every working day for over 2 weeks now. It all started after the week when i only downloaded a few hundred megs.

Anyone else being QoS'ed to slow speeds should ring up aswell i suppose, unless OldTitan or the other guy (forget his nick now) can tell us what the story is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,042 ✭✭✭spooky donkey

yeah ive been in the same boat for 2 weeks also. They said we would be QoS`ed to 512 but its more like 256. Let us know how you get on after youre phone call fruit as i may call them myself. WIth a 2 meg connection i hardly download that much either these days as I have every thing I want to get.

It's off topic but not worth a new thread...a friend is getting IBB breeze at home, is there any hardware that she needs to get?

    Thanks in advance

    P

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭Blaster99

It's already pretty much off topic. With IBB you'll get a PoE adapter that gives you an ethernet port. You get no router or firewall. You can obviously plug a PC straight into the PoE adapter and setup a firewall on the PC and you're ready to go. Otherwise you'll need a router/firewall.

    Great, thanks blaster99.

    <snip>

    Way way way offtopic.

Try to keep this thread to IBB.

From my experience NEVER let a company say they will ring you back, they never do.

I nearly done that 2 weeks ago.. I live around the corner and work across the rd :P

I have a little secret that gets IBB to do what you are asking them. Call them and get the to commit to something and no doubt promise you a call back. Get a time frame for them to call you back within.. They likely wont call back..

Then call then back and say what you need done again and then mention you were promised a call back. You will then be promised another call back.. Once again, get a set timeframe that they will call within. They likely wont call you..

Then call back and loose the plot on the phone. You will have your problem fixed within a few days.

If you are getting a new install or your equipment moved, tell them you are refusing to pay the install fee because of all the time you have wasted calling them and the stress it has called.

The above worked for me on 2 occassions now. Once last week, the other about 6 months ago..

On a more serious note. I think ye guys are getting a little excited about the QOS stuff. I am under the impression that the QOS application will only limit your connection if you are literally downloading half the internet. I dont think your connection is gonnna be limited every day during peak periods. It is only going to be limited if you are hogging all the bandwidth and basically locking out everyone else on the same sector as you.

I could be wrong though and if I am, thats one crap QoS application :P

    Connection still crap here.
On the Coolmine site with IBB.
    Getting download of 790kbp
    Upload of 788kbps
    Quality of service is 78%
Seems to stall totally every few minutes playing games is i complete disaster.

Not a peep from them as to any upgrading and I am still on the 1MB
    service.

    Dave.

Thats good for that time of day. Your never going to get full speed during the day time, try being on 230 both ways on a 2mb line. I was promised it would be sorted tomorrow i got very very bitchy on the phone, In all fairness i had to use my neightbours BB To get a files i needed asap.

And I'm paying €85 EUR per month for that... I'm seriously considering going back to EsatBT or even Smart now... :(:(:(

100ms to boards.ie is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned. It should be 15~20ms max.
I was pinging CoD servers @ 150ms all day yesterday (and today!), also unacceptable. It's been like this for over 24 hours now. Rang IBB, gave them hell, they promised a ring back in the afternoon. I'm on a 2Mbit connection with 8:1 contention ratio... You'd think I'd manage better than 100ms to boards.ie! And I don't even care about download/upload speeds! All I want is a proper ping to play online. That's all! In my opinion, it's not much to ask considering I'm giving IBB €85 EUR per month. Or am I asking too much?

Waiting for their call back... Keep you posted. Hang in there all of you!

On the phone to em now... the ********! Lets get this 256kbps thing lifted. Its a right PITA. Tried getting stuff today cos i needed it in college, and it took next to forever. Then timed out :p

EDIT: Its due to prioritising of business traffic, which imo is a load of twaddle. I've been limited, but either the guy doesn't know it, or he's not telling me. Grr argh. Hopefully oldtitan or wise guy can help me out.

It seems like i have well i usually get about 1600+ at night but i asked the guy today and he said i was on 1mb. I dunno i will let ya no later i am connecting at 800 now.

Me too, up and down... On the phone to them again right now cos they never rang me back (obviously...). Along with ntl, it's gotta be the worst customer service ever. They just don't give a crap about your problems! :(
"I'll get on to the NetOps people again"... That's all they ever say! I wonder if these guys actually exist!

Change ISP? I'm seriously considering that now. A month full of problems. No help what so ever... But no problems with the Direct Debits! Never get that wrong! :(

[PS: Apologies for the negativeness of my post but I've had enough now]

    Regarding Pinging Boards.ie

I got setup there from IBB last Thursday and my ping to boards.ie are:

    Ping statistics for 82.195.144.58:
    Packets: Sent = 50, Received = 50, Lost = 0 (0% loss)
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 13ms, Maximum = 26ms, Average = 17ms

Also I have not found any slow down since.
I'm in Galway so IBB only went live here just 2 weeks ago and i don't think anyone else is connected

I am on the 1MB Breeze and I recived an email yestarday say I will be upgraded to 2MB :D
