There will be tickets on ticketmaster.ie on August 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,170 ✭✭✭Serbian

The tickets will be €35.50, seems pretty expensive considering I have gotten tickets to see a bunch of other bands with a similar profile for less than €25 each. I'm sure it will be a great gig though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

They're worth double that. I think that was the price of the tickets for the last time as well.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 421 ✭✭drrnwbb

32,50€ isnt too bad, some of the other gigs are 40€ +

anyhoo, anyone who does go to the gig if they can take pics/do a review for the sigur-ros.co.uk site, they can be emailed to me at reviews@sigur-ros.co.uk

also, if anyone knows anyone in dublin who is going and who does concert recordings - tell them to email me at that address aswell. five concerts in dublin over the years and not a single recording.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

I'll review the gig for brainwashed.com, when it goes up you can email them and ask them for permission to use the review if you want. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who'd do a recording.

I got mine from ticketmaster 2 days ago... its worth ringing em. Also, try the small shops for tickets. THey often by bundles off ticketmaster, and any the small shops don't sell get returned to ticketmaster a few weeks before the concert. So its often possible to pick up tickets from shops even if they are sold out of the ticketmaster website.

Got mine! :D I can't wait, plus, it's gonna feel all christmassy!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 290 ✭✭Yv

Got mine on Sunday, though apparently there were only floor tickets left - wonder how soon it'll sell out (if it hasn't already). Can't find anyone who's into them who can afford to accompany me though... damn €35 tickets, add on the train ticket & other expenses & it works out at over €80 for the average Galwegian. Still think it's worth it tho :D

Thansk to Damien I got presale tickets from klink.is

What I want to know is, what exactly are "Pit Tickets" in the Olympia? My ticket is to be collected at the box office...

got mine there too. does this mean we have to actually go to the olympia some time before the concert and collect the tickets or what? talk about awkward....

right, what will happen for the presale ticket people is that you will be issued wristbands and you will have access to the venue before the general ticket people (usually about 15min before). ive no idea about the pit thing though - if thats just for presale people or if with the power of your superwristband thingies you will be able to just get as close to the stage as possible before the commoners come in.

You going to be coming over DW?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 421 ✭✭drrnwbb

alas not, im gonna see them here in helsinki a week or so before and maybe some of the september gigs. id love to go back home to see them there - dublin in 2001 was the best audience ive seen at a sr gig. enjoy! (i'll be bumping this thread in early november asking for reviews for the site)

(as an aside, i put some recent of their concerts onto our bit torrent site for the band: http://www.drrnwbb.com/bt/ two are mp3 and a few are lossless)

How did you manage to get front row?
I tried getting mine bang on 9am and ended up about 6 rows back - Do ticketmaster not sell from the front row first? Or did the first 6 rows sell out in seconds?

the tickets for the Olympia that were sold off klink.is are standing tickets. This leads me to think that people who bought presale tickets will get the wristband for getting into the barriered off pit area at the front.

I very much doubt there will be a pit in the olympia for sigur ros.... Anyway no matter where you stand on the ground floor at the olympia its like being at the front :D

There's always a pit area in the Olympia for standing concerts I thought?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

    Not always

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

I was at a seated gig in the olympia for The Divine Comedy :p Even the "standing" area was seated. Was damn good though.

Sigur Rós piece in today's Friday Review in The Guardian.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Kazaanova

I saw on SOME website that this gig is for 18+ only. Surely not for a band like Sigur Ros. I'm 16, I'd have no problem getting in right?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 421 ✭✭drrnwbb

its not the bands policy - ive seen many many people at sigur rós gigs who were under 18.

ask the olympia or ticketmaster for clarification.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Kazaanova

    ...
Over 18's, Valid ID (Passport, Drivers Licence, Garda Age Card) required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

The Olympia generally doesn't stop underagers from getting in but you probably won't get served at the bar but it's ok, Sigur Rós are intoxicating enough as it is.

boston concert was great, amazing venue. nyc gigs went very well aswell.

What was the setlist like? Are they still doing that awesome reworking of Haffsól?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 421 ✭✭drrnwbb

yeah they are.. and its still great!

the setlists have been varying a little bit during the american tour. they have all started off with the intro to takk, then glósóli and then ný batterí.

this was the nyc setlist (for both nights):
    1- Intro
    2- Glósóli
    3- Ný batterí
    4- Svefn-g-englar
    5- Sæglópur
    6- Vaka (Untitled #1)
    7- Njósnavélin (Untitled #4)
    8- Hoppípolla
    9- Með Blóðnasir
    10- Viðrar vel til loftárása
    11- Hafssól
    12- Smáskífa
    13- Popplagið (Untitled #8)

thankfully in boston they played a slightly different set:
    1. Takk / Glosoli
    2. Ny Batteri
    3. Saeglopur
    4. Vaka
    5. Gong / Andvari
    6. Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa
    7. Hoppipolla / Med Blodnasir
    8. Hafssol
    9. Smaskifa
    10. Popplagio

the new songs have so much energy to them but the highlights for me was the start of með blóðnasir (the band members start their "rocking" mode) aswell as the very end of smaskifa (the bsides to the vaka single) where orri (the drummer) is on the stage on his own playing piano. beautiful. popplagið is super great aswell.

one thing about all the older songs from agaetis byrjun, for myself who has seen the band a lot - theys do tend to be quite boring. and hopefully the band will realise that playing four songs from ab (ny batt, svefn, vidrar, olsen) is a bit too much and two or so should be the max. the new songs are far too good to be sidelined.

also, another single from the album will be out late november with two fantastic bsides :) its gonna be greeeattt!

Me too. "Viorar", "Ny Batteri", "Olsen Olsen" and "Svefn" would probably all be on my wishlist, had I gotten tickets.

my badly made point above needs to be clarified :)

svefn and ny batteri are two of my favourite songs in the world ever. i could listen to them every single day for the rest of time and id not grow tired of them. but, when the band are on stage for 1hr45min or so, then i would prefer newer songs from takk or ( ) took priority before they played four or five songs from agaetis byrjun. they should only play 2-3 max from that album.

the three concerts i saw last week in nyc and boston started out so great with track 1 (glósóli) from takk - then going into the long drawn out intro to ny batteri which sorta looses the momentum a bit. then the 2 nyc ones went straight into svefn. thankfully the band were persuaded to change it slightly for the boston (and subsequent) concerts. the new songs are just so amazing live that the older older older ones should be kept to a minimum.

they have played most of takk live now, with the exception of two songs i think - and those two have been rehersed.

most of us don't get to see them five nights a week, so we want to hear AB tracks, they know it too, so tough titties :p

Any chance of persuading them to do Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do for the Dublin show? ;)
