    Hi,

I'm not sure if you've already bought the tank or not. Pet-bliss.com will deliver their tanks. Other possible options.

    1. Know anyone with a trailer - put a mattress under the tank and careful driving

    2. Slightly more expensive - hire a driver/van to move it.

    3. Rent a van and drive yourself.

If it is a big tank then you will need to have AT LEAST two people to lift it. I recently bought a second hand 5ft Rio 400. It was tremendously heavy - took 2 strapping chaps to lift it into a trailer and transport it. I reckon trailer is cheapest bet - but it all depends on if you know someone that has a trailer long enough for your tank.

    Hope that helps.

    B

couriers usually charge on weight its about €50 for a pallet - but problems can be that if 2 men are needed to lift it you will be charged more - secnd hand tanks can get damaged during transit & leaks can & often do happen! - It may work out cheeper to buy a brand new tank.

Obviously if you dont want a water tight tank - then its way cheeper to buy second hand.

    oh that's grand,
if you can get good access to glass
and an expert who can cut to size/shape
that's brilliant, just pick up some aquarium silicone
from most good aquatic shops and plan it out
the base should come out so the side panes rest
on it. some people use masking tape to hold everything
together until the silicone sets but if you have access
to the proper clamps then that'd be ideal.

have a ringg around, if you could supply the glass and
get someone else to stick it together that'd save you
    a bit...

good luck and let us know how you get on.

Cobh Aquatics make tanks to any size.
    They are based in Cork.
My friend just got an 60x80x60 240litre made custom with 10mm glass.
If you are building your own make sure that the glass is strong enough.
depending on the design you may also need to put braces in the top as well.

I've heard stories of tanks that are cheap & second hand, you would want to test it first. Then transport it. I have a friend in england that makes tanks & is allways on the lookout for a bargain to re-sell but he reckons that most of the cheaper ones have something wrong with them. The glass could bee to big on one side and when you fill it full will pull the joints out.
I would reccomend that you find a friend that knows someone who is getting rid of one over here. Most of my customers for big aquariums have another small one to sell on and the reason they are selling it is that its too small. Custom made set you in big bucks but you can get a Rekord 160 for about 400 euro. nice tank! Just dont waste your money on crap. thats probably why they are selling it.

I wouldn't recommend building your own unless you are experianced with that sort of thing as if the tank fails your house would be totally destroyed.

Juwel make top end tanks which look good to although the filtration system isn't the best. You would be better off spendind a few quid and getting a good tank.

This place in Killkenny is the cheapest in Ireland that i could find for Juwels
and they have a huge selection of fish etc.

    Hiya

Thanks For the info, Yeh I have A Juwel Rekord 70 already, the filteration I find is ok, but the carbon filter is rubbish So replaced With home made ativiacted carbon and replaced the bulb as is was rubbish,

    Cheers

    Rob

Their filters have good biological filtration by when it come to mechanical filtration they aren't to good, There is to many dead spots in the tank which is where all the debris gathers.

All tanks should have at least two filters anyway but Juwel tanks need them for sure.

Im a huge fan of Juwel tanks and i really love the way the lid is designed which great for mantainance.

The lights that come with the tanks are standard enough but ok.
Its easy to add different types of light to for effect.

This is my Rio 300 with some lights i added.

really Nice Tank, The blue Light your using, home made? or purchased? where from?

The standard Light to be honest I found to be rubbish I have a heavy planted tank and it was Way below what I needed, so over the Weekend I bought a replacment 15 watt Full spectrum bulb Aquasomething or flow of something, I can`t Remeber the name but the difference is outstanding the tank has suddenly come into its own, I will try put up a picture later,

I Agree with you about the filteration its ok, the Dead zones are a pain alright.. just mean I have to but I had a problem with tanin in the Water with bogwood even with me boiling it and soaking it for a Couple of weeks So I DIY`d an activated carbon sponge with basically a old pair of tights and activated carbon bits from the LFS.

Worked perfectly Tanin Was gone in 2 days

Re: external canister Filters, Anyone using them ? if So how noisy?

    Cheers

    Rob

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,827 ✭✭✭fred funk }{

There's very little noise from a good quality filter. I have one running at the moment in a 120 litre aswell as an internal.

A guy made the lights for me from ebay for about twenty quid which was a bargain and they are really well made. If your interested ill dig up his email for you.

Regarding your tannins in the water, I buy a new piece of mopani wood every month of so just to keep the water brown as i like the look of it and the fish seem to like it aswell

  • Registered Users Posts: 506 ✭✭✭dark_jedi_ire

yeh I think I seen the stuff on Ebay Alright.

If you have the email that Would be cool. Thanks

Yeh I have Mopani Wood in the tank also , My tank is a biotope ( All the plants And Fish Are From a certain part of the World,) South american Amazon river So its supposed to have lots of tannin in the Water and I like it to , :) and the fish love it,

In the Tank Are Bolivian Rams , Neon tetras , Corys, Pleco Some shrimp Floating plants etc, Amazon swords Java ferns Java Moss

    :)

God spare us your advertising dribble drabble!
From looking through your site its seems very expensive I for one will not buy anything there with those prices :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,827 ✭✭✭fred funk }{

And by the way you can get a brand new Rio 400 with stand from Killkenny aquatics for 770 and i know you stated delivery was included but its still no bargain.

Aqua village in blessington will normally match anyones price in Ireland like they did for me.
