IE Problem

here's the problem:

whenever i click on a link on a website, IE freezes and crashes. as in if i was to click on this > www.ireland.com < it wouldn't open and would either freeze and crash or just go to not respondeing.

i'm running XP and this problem only started happening about a week ago? any ideas?

Empty cookies/cache

reinstall IE

make sure there's no download manager interfering

Really got to suspect spyware here.

Things you shood do.

1. Run Adaware or MS Antispyware
2. Run good anti virus check
3. Check and repair registry. (Tune up utilities from download.com)

Clean out temp file
clear cache
install firefox.

i run spy bot search and destroy, and lavasoft ad ware, am behind a decent firewall in UCD and have a reg-fix programme too so thats why its confusing me,

i believe it or not like IE and don't really want to install firefox...

ireland.com uses some flash elements, goto another site that uses flash like http://www.kontraband.com and see if I.E Crashes, i suspect its either a flash component or some form of javascript ?

no its not

and it doesn't crash as much any more ( why i have no idea) but it still won't open any weblinks for me, even if i right click and go to 'open in a new window'

Is your copy and paste working okay? I only ask as I'd a problem like this ages ago, and at the same time, the copy and paste would stop working. It was a virus that stopped some service which had the effect of stopping IE from opening links, and also stopped the copy and paste functions.
