Well anandtech have gotten hold of the Dual Core Optrons and the details of the AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual core desktop chips which are expected in June.

They used Optrons (2.2Ghz 1MB Cache)in a desktop setup to give a performance estimate which they reckon is pretty conservative as the desktop chips will not have restrictions like the server equivelent. As well as which there will be a 2.4Ghz desktop chip out in June too.

Looks awesome AMD are dominating nearly ever single benchmark with there combined Single and Dual core solutions. Multitasking is now virtually a dead heat. More to the point where Intel's dual core took a considerable single thread performance hit AMD seems to be much smaller.

However Intel will be able to batter AMD in the price category as the Dual cores are going be over 500 euro from amd while intel will have one in the Mid 200's. For low buget multitasking Intel will without a competitor and there is the question of the avilability of the dual cores from AMD with perhaps only the expensive higher end cpu's being in decent supply.

However bottom line is the performace Crown looks like it will remain it AMD for the time being.

its only Intel for price on dual cores really tho. The single core amd's offer better price/performance than any intel's atm
