As mentioned before, the final space section is supposed to be the actual "game" and the rest is like a tutorial or some crap. I'm still gonna check it out I reckon.

I just watched gamespots review and I really don't know what to make of it now. It seems you will either love it and play it for hours or get sick of it five minutes in. The review was positive but the game doesn't seem to have that many features. It looks a bit boring and repetitive. I'm on the fence and I'm not coming down for a while yet. Any more detailed impressions?

When the first information and video came out of it I was really excited about how immense it seemed. Then I thought about it for a while and realised it'd be incredible repetative, but to be honest, there's still a lot to do in the game and it will keep me occupied for a fair old while. Plus, I'm a fan of the Sims, so repetiveness is something I enjoy!

There's lots in spectrum about it. I thought it was interesting because they don't usually do articles on particular games.

i'm a good bit into the space stage of the game, and I agree everything before that apart from the tribal and city stages seems a bit like a tutorial, but not at the same time if that makes any sense ! Anyways, the space stage is the main part, the galaxy is HUGE and you can travel right to the very center by either flying normally (jumping from star system to star system) or going through black holes, but sometimes they leave you on the other end of the Galaxy. Upgrades for your ship are needed to get anywhere in the game, and for that you need money which you get my trading spice (those gysers spewing red stuff on the planet) or by destroying other ships and cities of other nations and picking up money.

I've wasted hours just trying to get a foot hold in my sector !

    Pretty good game alright !

Second stage and actually liking it. Its more for the customisation options and the fact you feel you are really creating a unique, personal creature. Thumbs up so far, and best is yet to come apparently. Great learning curve, and while the initial stage is a bit simple, it picks up in the second.

does the design of your creature have much effect on the gameplay in the space stage?
Like if you make a fierce predator are they better at going to war in space or do their personal attributes have little relevance when they are in spacecraft etc?

Do you not have to run it from the Games menu when you click the start button?

You can just create a shorcut on your desktop, very simple. Google how to do it.

It doesn't matter what you've made when you pass the creature stage and advance into the city stage afaik, I've got guys with 4 arms that have no benifit what so ever in the space age.

Seems to be a problem logging into the server. It recognises my EA account but after a few seconds attempting to login it tells me my activation code is invalid.

Quite a few people with the same problem. There's a sticky on the EA forums:

I think the Spore game servers have been borked all day (and yesterday). I'm getting different messages every now and then, but mostly something about my priviliges on spore.com. http://eu.spore.com/sdkcatch/ has been unavailable all day.

The fact of the matter is that you don't need to be logged in - without it, all you get are Maxis creatures which are fine. Frankly, I can do without some huge penis monster coming in to destroy my people.

I'm up to Tribal stage at this point, messed up a few times, but like has been said above, I don't think each stage is linked in any meaningful way, they're all kinda stand alone games. Loved the creature stage, found the cell stage a little dull, if I'm honest. But it's shaping up to be a game I'll delve into for many years to come.

careful you dont install it more than times :(

also , theres a keygen out , so becareful that you dont get one thats been generated and cuts you off online mode..

The little details in the cell stage make the microbiologist in me go all wibbly, like when you finally get big enough for the water currents to affect you, or the diatoms and plants growing in complexity when you zoom out. And especially running the hell away from the bigger cells until you're finally big enough to bully them back is damned fulfilling.

It's fun. It's not complex or even particularly deep, but watching your cell grow into animals and then civilisation is quite satisfying. Haven't played much of the space age part yet, but I thought the terraforming was interesting and the scale was very impressive. Could well have potential.

Everything seems ok now, was able to log in and see some user 'offerings'. Also? Civ stage rocks hard.
