Is it New or Used you are looking at?
I would personally go for the Toyota Hilux D4D or failing that the Mitsi L200.
Both are excellent and proven vehicles.

Here's my experience of the Mitsubishi L200. It may look flashy and "cool" from the outside but underneath it's crude and outdated (due to being based on an obsolete pickup truck) It's horrid to drive with poor grip and roadholding, it's very uncomfortable, it has the turning circle of a bus, space inside is poor considering the length of the vehicle.

Boot space is huge but the boot floor is a long way off the ground. Of course, the boot is uncovered so owners often order them with covers many of which are poor quality and have poor security. Locks on these covers are easily busted open and the boot cover doesn't lock/unlock with the vehicles central locking which is a pain.

The L200 is good for towing and actually seems to handle and ride slightly better when towing a big trailer  It's not as good a tower as a proper jeep (eg Toyota Landcruiser0 but then again the crew cabs are a lot cheaper.

I woudl imagine that all crew cabs are resonably similar and that most of the the above comments would apply to them too.

What do you need a crew cab for?

Altough probably the best selling crewcab ,the L200 as said is not very good ,I spent the last week as a passenger in a mitsi pajero sport which has same chaise and nearly same bodywork as L200. Going round bends in the road there was some roll it was terrible ive been through the same corner in other jeeps but this was wowful. It was also very noisy .I think the navara is a good alternitive see alot of them on the roads.

Isuzu have a crew cab pick-up truck called the Rodeo too. It is available in single or double crew cab. If the Trooper is anything to go by then it should be a good truck.

When I was evaluating them all ( less than 2 years ago) the Nissan Navara was the best for the following reasons :

    1. More modern Engine with a higher horsepower and better fuel efficiency

    2. Recently changed shape and better reviews on road holding

    3. Better switchgear etc inside, air con, power windows all round, leather steering wheel, cd player etc ( more like a car)

See here for the canopy on the Navara I bought .. http://www.roadranger.de/

Not a great fan of crew cabs. The cab is too big for most of the time and the bed is too small all the time.

Conversely, in single caps the Bed is just right most of the time the cab is too small all of the time.

Hence, I prefer X-tra cabs, ie a cab & half with a full sized bed. Not too many of those in ROI/EU from what I gather.

They have become more and more popular here in the last 3 or 4 years as there was some sort of VRT loop hole with these vehicles up to about 2 years ago.

Pretty popular with builders, etc as they are pretty good a pulling heavy loads and qualify for commercial road tax.

I have even seen a Mits L200 being used as a hackney cab.

    Which have become more popular?;
    The Screw Cab here
    or
    The X-tra Cab
    here

The rodeo, navarra or hilux are the best three.

I have no idea why the l200 was voted best 4x4 there a few years ago, they drink diesel and handle like ****e, sure they look butch but they're not a patch on the other three.

I'd go with the navarra myself, hilux is a bit long in the tooth now, but does have a good engine....

    I dunno, but don't buy the l200

Aha, the ones I do not like, plus the pedestrian bars make it even more so.

Anyway, there is nothing "wrong" with them, just serve no purpose for me, that's all. Plus I find a lower bed, much easier to load & unload.

Pedantic, perhaps, but he said crew cab, not crewcab!

    http://www.eurocoachbuilders.ie/mainCab.htm

    This is a crew cab.
